this review is not about the movie plot or characters it is about the 4k disc. first of all my equiptment helps a great deal oppo203 4k player( none better) lg oled tv( calibrated of course) and surround sound in a 1600 cubic foot rectangular room with 4 svs subwoofers one in each corner!!! this disc is AMAZING!!!!! picture and sound are the best you will ever find!! IMAX scenes are SO AWESOME!!!!! 4k mbps transfer rate is over 100 in some scenes!!! LFE effects shake my whole building!!! this disc is a thrill ride of epic proportions!!! great fun and worth every penny!!!!!

This movie brings fan-fiction to an art form. I would call it STAR TREK, THE OTHER WRATH OF KAHN, but I don't want to disrespect this movie in any way. This is the second of a series of new Star Trek movies. In the first, the writers created a clever device by which the characters, who were originally created in a 1960s television series and later moved through 4 major motion pictures, are no longer bound by their serial and cinematic histories. They are pretty much the same recognizable characters, but because they passed through a time portal, anything that was done in the past can be recognized, referenced to, and in this movie, paid homage to. For those who watch this movie who have not seen any of the preceding movies or shows, it stands alone well. It moves along well with action, humor and drama, and with very good performances from a talented cast.

I think this iteration of the Star Trek franchise does all the characters justice without being campy. The movies are action packed with good storyline. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Havind grown up with the original TV series, but someone who wasnt a big fan of most of the Shatner era movies, I think this breathes fresh life into the franchise! Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof deliver a fantastic screenplay!

There are not enough alternate realities to convince me that Khan Noonian Singh is a blue eyed Englishman. You've GOT to be Kidding. And Christopher Pike is supposed to be put out to pasture by Spock, not Khan. It's the one big rub I have against this particular Episode and it needs a do over. There are a ton of Indian and even New Zealanders who can pull off a proper Khan. I damn expected Cliff Curtis to be bestowed the honors. He's probably one of the MOST versatile actors in Hollywood, EVER. Dude has played Chicanos, Maori (which he is, but you have to look it up), and tanned white dudes. He can cop an accent easily and woulda been perfect for the part. Which brings me to another problem with this particular reselling, the series is simply too white to be recognized as Rodenberry influenced. With the casting of Cumberbatch as Khan, who I adore and love (he's SOOOOOOOO super English and uber British what's not to love, I'm an Anglophile I admit), they lost a great opportunity. They don't have to change a thing in the script either. ALL they have to do is change the actor. Other than that, which is a big deal, I couldn't give it less than 4 stars becuase it is played well by the entire cast. Probably and pradoxically the darkest Star Trek made, it's a good picture and makes me look forward to the next installment.

Never thought the 4k would be such an upgrade, but it is! The clarity is incredible. The graphics and special are beyond fabulous! But the best part is the clarity of speech- you can actually hear every word the actors say! Before, they would mumble and you wouldn't catch everything they said- but you do now. Note- you do need a 4k TV and a 4k blu-ray player (duh). It was like watching the movie for the first time!

Not as great as the first reboot, but what is? All the great charactors are there and Benedict Cumberbatch is a delicious Khan. Drawbacks are a silly lovers spat between Spock and Uhura and an overly-long final sequence that includes a rather stupid homage to the original Wrath of Khan with Kirk and Spock and radiation.

It has nothing to do with the moral and philosophical issues which always underpinned series like Next Generation. It has some particularly unnecessary scenes like the spaceship hidden under water. There is also a staggeringly gratuitous scene with one of the female characters.

The three re booted Star trek films basically go in ascending order - the first being the best and Beyond the weakest.
Into Darkness sits snuggly between these two - I really enjoyed this film and it's call backs to Wrath of Khan but as a 3D nerd what really grabbed me was how GREAT the 3D is on this film.
At times it's almost like watching a 4K film it is that sharp and clear - the flight suit scene with Pine and Cumberbunch are avoiding debris as they fly between 2 ships is awesome.
I for one never understood why 3D never took off - I am literally the only person I know that is bothered about it (lol). For any sort of event type film - Fantasy, Sci-Fi or Superhero the 3D adds an extra layer of special effects - the 3D you get at home on your TV far surpasses the 3D in the cinema as well as it is so much clearer.

Anyway - if you have a 3D TV - treat yourself and get this film.

After the excellent Star Trek, I found this a disappointment, in the first one we have a story of time travel and something similar here, and the plot for me, is very confusing, just bringing in the English Guy to play the baddy does not work here, and the usually excellent Benedict Cumberbach is woefully miscast. The rest of the crew are excellent as in the first one. But like another reviewer on here, I ordered all three movies as separate discs, and they sent me the Star Trek / into Darkness double disc instead of Into Darkness single disc, would not be an issue if I had not ordered Star Trek as the same time, so was too late to cancel order, and I now have two copies of the same film, I did not need to pay for

No issue with the films. Item, however, was not what I ordered. I ordered a copy of Into Darkness, as per picture and description given. What I actually received was a copy of the StarTrek/Into Darkness double DVD. Whilst this may not seem a cause for complaint, I have three issues: 1. I’d ordered at the same time - and subsequently received - a copy of Star Trek, which is now redundant and thus a waste of money; 2. The double pack was actually cheaper than what I was charged for, adding to my unnecessary expenditure, and 3; this item appears to be non-returnable.
Overall, not best pleased, so approach with caution if you’re particular about what item you’re actually wanting to receive.
