Good Star Trek, in spite of annoying agenda flatulence.

Entertaining Star Trek, when not overtly preaching annoying agenda subtexts. In fairness, Star Trek TOS and successors have all done so. For but one example, consider the old, gratuitous womanizing and virtue signalling, especially of TOS and Next Generation. But that presents a choice to the viewer to either hold your nose and tolerate it, or spend your time and money elsewhere. I held my nose, set the agenda nonsense aside in context of giving Discovery a simple chance to entertain me, and with that clear caveat, it did not disappoint as fundamentally entertaining Star Trek fare. The second season is the best, IMHO. Anson Mount brings the best Captain Pike you can imagine to the bridge. Raises a good debate about who's the better captain, Kirk or Pike. Pike would be my pick. And then, Season Two brings Spock, played superbly by Ethan Peck; and it brings the Enterprise magnificently, as Starfleet's Constellation-class starship. Number One is played very well by Rebecca Romijn. The studio has very wisely decided to expand the Season Two introduction of the Pike, Spock, Enterprise into its own new series entitled, "Strange New Worlds" with release in 2021 or 2022. I plan to tune into that probable winner. As I also purchased Discovery Season 3, I add that it fits in as second in my rating behind Season Two. However, I recommend watching all three seasons to follow the story and timelines. There are complexities and twists and turns that require your attention as the story unfolds (or stories unfold).

Discs came fast. Love the direction they took Star Trek. Be aware, Star Trek has always had a sense of humor. That is gone now and is all drama. The stories are basically one story or episode per season, so each season plays out like a long movie. If I was asked if I reccomend this, well it's not for every Star Trek fan, it has wandered away from Star Trek cannon. If you can get past the changes it is quite rewarding.

After seeing some reviews from other people having problems with the quality of their DVDs, I decided to check mine and found 4 out of 8 DVDs that my player had problems (see attached pictures):

Season1: DVD 3 & 4.

Season 2: DVD 2 & 4.

They have scratches on them that my player can't play back.

So, I am returning both Season 1 & 2. Bought them as a combo bc it was cheaper.

Also, now that I saw what other people said about the picture quality. I also found that if I stay about 6 or 7 feet away from my 4K TV, the menu screens do look pixelated and quite bad. But from 12 to 15 feet away, they seem fine. The same goes for the DVD resolutions upscaled to 4K. So if you want better picture, pay more and get the Blue-ray version.
