I first played this game on the Super Nintendo when it came out. I was thinking of picking up a 32X because I've been collecting all the older consoles I can get my hands on and the 32X was one of the few systems left on my hit list. While researching games I might be interested in for the 32X I noticed there was a port of this game. I had to have it!

I loved the SNES version back in the day and I was curious to see what was enhanced in this version. The graphics on this version are leagues beyoned the SNES version. The space ships look fantastic! The game is set across four years of Star Fleet Academy. Each year you've got five missions to complete. In between missions you can talk to your fellow students, play pool with a friend or against the computer or go to the simulator and practice space combat.

There are a few minor things that are better in the SNES version. In the SNES version your ships default sensors are set to short range, in the 32X version the defualt is combat which leaves you blind...so you've always got to increase the sensor range at the beginning of each mission. That's a very very minor thing but something I noticed right away. Also in the SNES version all the ships are basically white polygons without and texturing which makes things a lot easier to see as they're all white and easier to see. So that's more of a graphical weakness in the SNES version that works to your advantage. The SNES version doesn't have the pool game either. Those are the only differences.

Over all I'd say pick up the 32X version. It looks a lot better and has all the same missions as the SNES version. Is this worth picking up a 32X for? Maybe...if you find one for the right price. For me this is the number one game on the 32X and have been having a blast replaying it with the increased graphical. I wouldn't pay more than 10 to 15 bucks for this game so keep that in mind, but I'm cheap in general.
