I'm so jealous of the kids who will get to experience the Star Wars movies through the 3D era, because these new lightsaber toys are COOL AS HELL.

I was in the most recent Star Wars generation of kids (7-12 years old as the prequels were released) and I had several of the lightsaber toys over the years. Haha, due to the excessive use, I had to replace them once a year or so. They were so cool to have, and I'd take mine everywhere. I specifically remember traveling to Chicago with my great-aunt for a week or so when I was nine, and pretending I was a Jedi on an escort mission to Coruscant, while the Clone Wars had just begun recently, so I had to look out for droids and separatists on the way.
It was great fun running around that huge city on my own every day (my aunt worked as a realtor and was out most of the time. She left me some money for food and stuff every morning, and I would just go out on adventures in the city) and I'd take the lightsaber wherever I went.

I loved it, but I always had the complaint that the swords were too... bulky. If you can see the older 2002 models of these toys, the handles are so thick and unwieldy that it made performing all the spins, tricks, finesse and swordsmanship you see in the movies excessively difficult, and nearly impossible.

These newer ones they're making, though..? INCREDIBLE. For nostalgia's sake, I bought all of them and gave the blades a spin! They're thinner than the old ones, and don't sacrifice much in the way of durability... I'm a 172 pound P90X graduate, and I could *probably* bend the swords, but not by hitting them against another sword. These will hold up in a fight.
Handling them is great, the handles are so light. Wielding these, you can move... fast. As fast as they do in the films.

This new Darth maul Double-bladed Lightsaber is awesome!

I bought the one back in 1999 and that one sucked! Too thick and the blades broke apart when hit against other saber!

BUT THIS ONE?

PERFECT!

Skinny blade. STRONG DURABLE blades.

Just what I've been dreaming for.

Definitely worth the buy!

no problems with this light saber. there is a button for each end of the double saber that keeps "that end" in place until the fighter wishes to sling it out. easy peasy for my 5 yr. old to handle.

A Kid's Review on May 4, 2013
I have had this lightsaber for two and a half years, and nothing has changed about it, since it came out of the package. I use it almost every day, and it is still one of my favorites. I can beat my dad in a duel with any lightsaber, but this one really rocks.

Back in 1999 the reveal of Darth Maul's double sided lightsaber in Phantom Menace restored my faith in the awesomeness of Star Wars during an otherwise lackluster prequel up until that point. Fast forward fifteen years and I'm a Dad who has successfully passed the Star Wars obsession to my kids. This lightsaber is one of, if not the coolest, of all the lightsabers and one of my boys really wanted to get it. My family had a Disney World vacation planned and the Star Tours attraction was a must-do. Following the attraction (which is totally awesome!), we made the obligatory 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' to find the best collection of Star Wars memorabilia this side of Mustafar. Inside the gift shop was a build your own lightsaber section that was really cool but just insanely overpriced.
Enter Amazon: One click on the smartphone and this baby was enroute to my hotel...no fuss, no lugging through the park!! Beyond that convenience, this particular lightsaber is constructed way better than the costume accessory ones, so it will hold up to spirited use without cracking and denting. Overall, this was a really worthwhile purchase for us and will most likely be for you if you too are in the market for a Darth Maul toy lightsaber. The process by which I acquired this also worked out great (for convenience and economy) so I wanted to pay that one forward in case you find yourself in a similar situation for this or any other item needed while you are on vacation. Have fun.

This lightsaber is huge - 5 feet when fully opened. My son loves it and it worked great with his Halloween costume and just around the house.

Every year at Christmas, I chase my nephews around the house for an extended light saber war. having this double bladed saber had my nephews on the run for most of the time. I love how kid's minds work.... "two blades must mean twice as powerful"

If you're wondering, this lightsaber has no light nor sound effects like other light sabers, just like the basic flip out lightsabers of my youth.

I bought this so that I could give my daughter and her cousins a villain to fight together when they get together.
It has good construction and so far has taken a pretty good beating.
The blades can come loose without pushing the buttons, but not too much.
I've had it nearly a month and it's still like it came out of the box, though with a few dings from rough play.

Only problem is there's no clip to hang it off your belt or anything.
