First off, the design of this Tamagotchi is absolutely adorable. The R2-D2 figure is a perfect representation of the beloved droid from the Star Wars franchise. The attention to detail is impressive, from the blue and white color scheme to the intricate buttons and screen.
The gameplay is simple and straightforward. Your task is to take care of your R2-D2 Tamagotchi by feeding it, playing games with it, and keeping it clean. You'll also need to monitor its health and happiness levels, and give it occasional maintenance check-ups to ensure it stays in tip-top shape.
One of the best parts about this Tamagotchi is the variety of mini-games available. You can play games like asteroid blasting, racing, and memory matching. These games are a fun way to bond with your R2-D2 and earn points to unlock new features and items.
Another great feature is the ability to connect with other Tamagotchi devices. You can exchange gifts, play games together, and even breed your Tamagotchis to create new generations. The social aspect of this Tamagotchi adds a whole new level of fun and interaction.
Overall, I highly recommend the Bandai America R2-D2 Tamagotchi to any Star Wars or Tamagotchi fan. It's a perfect combination of two beloved franchises that will provide hours of entertainment and companionship. May the force be with you and your new digital droid friend!
So my R2 ended and reset without me even getting a chance to see the ending screen or getting a choice about whether I was ready to begin again. (At least I assume that is what happened since it was about time for his life cycle to end.) I wanted to take a break between life cycles. I'm not sure if this was a fluke/a glitch or if this is really how these new Tamas are designed to end, but I am annoyed that I was deprived of seeing an ending and that I had no way to just leave it alone for a while on an ending screen to take a break before resetting him. (I'm going to see if it works to take a break by leaving him in clock-set mode.) Maybe it's possible he got kidnapped and carried away by Jawas or something, but again, it should have some sort of ending screen remain on the screen until I reset it. I got zero indication of what had happened.
Now for my review other than the annoying ending (or lack thereof). R2 and his little beeps are quite cute. The mini-games are pretty fun, especially playing chess with Chewie. You'll unlock additional games a couple of times when he evolves throughout his life cycle. R2 doesn't seem to require much care compared to some other virtual pets. There's no meter to check on how charged he is or how happy he is, so it's unclear how often you should play with him. I played with him often to be safe. He often said no to me charging him, so he doesn't need charging particularly often. It does indicate visually when he needs to be cleaned. I sort of wish there was a little more to it, but he's still a fun little Tama and enjoyable for Star Wars fans. It's fun to see the various Star Wars characters and scenes that pop up at different times of the day. It's also nice that you can alternate between playing a few games with him instead of only getting one game like with classic Tamas.
Lots of people comment about the size. It should be obvious before purchasing that this isn't a classic-style Tamagotchi. This is a nano (my first nano). Do a little reading, folks! Takes a few minutes to research Tamagotchi types. I do prefer the classic size and shape, but I don't mind this one. It's pretty cute. It's not quite as tall or wide as original Tamas, but it is rounder/thicker. I'm including a photo for size comparison.
Two stars subtracted mainly due to the ending issue, plus I wish there was some sort of status meter to see what he needs and to have an idea of how often you should play games with him.
Editing to add later: can confirm after running him multiple times that he simply resets himself every time his life cycle ends. No ending screen, nothing.
