About the Author
TOM ANGLEBERGER, author of the New York Times bestselling Origami Yoda series, has been a Star Wars fan and collector since 1977. Growing up before the dawn of the VCR, Tom listened to Star Wars again and again on cassette tape. His first action figure was C–3PO and his most recent (very recent) was a sandtrooper. He lives in Virginia with his wife, author and illustrator Cece Bell. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

This book is written for younger readers, but as a 33 year old Star Wars nut I found this book fascinating. It is a great adaptation of the film with a number of asides, footnotes and other things added by the author. Given that this book is part of the New Canon, I was most interested in the additions made here. There are some amazing throw away lines from Yoda and Obi-Wan about feelings versus duty and maybe the old ways of the Jedi were not totally on point. There is also some stuff about force ghosts that blew my mind. There is stuff about Vader dealing with the suppression of Anakin that ties in with Lords of the Sith. No one seems to be talking about this book and I can't figure out why. If you are interested in the world of New Canon and how they are building out the world of Star Wars, this book is a must read.
A lot of the original story is still there, he hasn’t taken out anything, what he has added though, is some creative, clever, and all-together hilarious commentary as the story unfolds.
This is for fans of the story who have seen(read) Return a thousand times, or it might be for a younger reader who has maybe seen the film, and wants to read the story, because whilst this is a great re-telling, keeping all the major aspects of Lucas’s story, it leaves out some of the more graphic bits (“Stormtroopers have this gaps between their helmets and their shoulders, just right for a sharp Ewok knife, actually, lets just leave that and move on…”), making this highly amusing and totally kid friendly.
Angleberger takes us into the heads of various Characters giving us his thoughts of what they were thinking at the time (like we all have, what was Jerjerrod thinking when Vader turns up to inspect the Death Star, other than my throat feels tight today, what was Luke thinking in the Throne Room of the Emperor? And what was Boba Fett thinking??) There are lots of little one-liners, comments, thoughts, and a few bits of added dialogue that we have all imagined at one time or another. This is Tom’s version. And he does a really awesome job of re-telling the story, without losing its authenticity, but also gives it a bit extra.
This is definitely worth the read, especially if you are a fan, as it is a lot of fun, and you will get a good laugh out of it, as well as enjoy the re-telling of what is still one of the better ones in the series.
