The helmet is truly a full-size replica for a decent price. You can see the size difference to the Disney bank helmet that came out several years ago, and the more recent "paint a helmet" that came out in the last year (picture attached). This replica is huge in comparison; it's the size of a full face motorcycle helmet. If you want a nice display item, then this helmet is great!
The helmet comes in three pieces which are very easy to put together. It will take you less than a minute. Squeeze the pieces together to remove the seems.
For a full-size helmet, the inside is small; I have a 23-inch head and the helmet fits but is incredibly uncomfortable, and I can only look downwards. My on the other hand can wear the helmet with no problems. If you are an adult with a large head, don't plan on wearing this as a costume piece. I took out the nose piece (just two screws) and now I can at least get the helmet on. Good enough to wear for a few minutes.
If you want to display the helmet for a great price, then it is awesome. If you are an adult with a large head, you can't wear it. The voice changer is pretty bad. But overall I am really happy with it.
1. The voice changer doesn't work that well. Only when the mic is pressed very close to your lips does it really work, and that's not really that practical or easy to do when wearing.
2. It looks like a good size from the outside, but because of the shell thickness around the back it's surprisingly small on the inside. About 9" of space from front to back in the interior. You could probably mod the inside to free up more space perhaps. But as is, it will be snug on larger heads.
You have to ask yourself what you want it for really. You're not going to join the 501st with it, but for a shelf display piece or a kids toy (its intent), it's really good value at $80 imo and there's certainly no Stormtrooper helmet in this price range that comes remotely close in terms of looks.
The helmet is three pieces, at least out of the box. Unlike some other adult helmet replicas, in which the separate pieces are used to get a better fit and close around the head, (Hasbro Legends Iron Man and Starlird, Bandai's Red Power Ranger) for the Stormtrooper helmet, the three pieces are largely for manufacture and shipping. Once you clap them together you will not be taking them apart. It goes on over the head, just as seen in the movies.
Fit and finish is superb. I can't speak to the minute accuracy of the sculpt, but to the inexpert eye it looks dead on. It's mainly unpainted white ABS plastic. Which is a good thing in this case. Stormtrooper gear is shiny white plastic. With some nice clean paint apps for detailing, such as the blue on the respirator vents and the grey temple and nose details. The lenses are dark green. I'm not sure if that is accurate to the on screen props, but they look right in the fles. Giving the shiny black look for the eyes with just enough color to make them seem real.
The voice changer is pure garbage. It sounds awful, randomly works and just seems tacked on. The only reason I don't take a star off for it is it is completely and utterly pointless and unnecessary. Nobody is buying this thing just to hear themselves say "these aren't the droids w're looking for" and "move along" through a cheesy toy voice box. Just leave the batteries out.
The fit on an adult male head is decent. The internal strapping is meh at best. It suffers for only being anchored to the front half of the helmet (due to the three piece design). Without a hear anchor on the head strap the helmet tends to tilt upwards slightly, limiting your downward vision. If you plan of routinely wearing this thing it would be worthwhile to invest in some cheap motorcycle of football helmet padding to put inside.
While it has a few minor flaws, the shear value of this thing cannot be beat. It's the helmet you have craved since that glorious May Day in 1978. A look and design that has honestly never been equaled. And it is available at a below $100 retail price. You can't beat that.
I’m 5’10’’, 160lbs, Athletic build. Hopefully that will help you make a good assessment.
I’ve own an authentic Stormtrooper helmet in the past and personally, I like this one more. For those familiar, it has the feel on a hero’s helmet. It snaps together in 3 pieces and is pretty secure once together.
Can't beat the cost for what you get.
If you want this for the voice changer, don’t bother, its crap. But I like this guy regardless.
The head straps inside don’t fully secure this helmet for wiggling around on your head, but a couple pieces of styrofoam can be an easy fix. But again I like this guy regardless.
There is room inside if you want to connect a fan or a better homemade voice changer
