Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Adult/High School-These 21 stories are for dedicated fans and casual readers alike, although knowledgeable teens will get the most out of the jokes and asides. The tales vary as widely as the styles in which they are illustrated, and the lavish use of color will definitely attract attention. Readers well versed in the minutiae of the Star Wars universe will be thrilled to discover something about Boba Fett's personal life or a lesson once taught to young Anakin and remembered much later by Darth Vader. Those conversant in pop culture will be amused by the encounter between Jedi Micah Giiet and a fearsome kitchen droid called MREM-02 (pronounced Moree-Mohtwo). Both the Max Rebo Band and smuggler Vilmarh Grahrk have returned from Volume 1 in new adventures. There are several appearances of favorite characters like R2-D2 and C-3PO and there is even a bedtime story for young Anakin Solo featuring the adventures of his Uncle Luke's hand. Although some of the stories are stronger than others, this is still an entertaining collection. Purchase as interest demands.

While rather pricey, this collection of short stories is quite charming, and well worth the money, if you're a true die-hard fan, and/or are into comics in particular. I never have been, (into comics, that is) but this caught my eye one day at the last minute in the bookstore, so I picked it up just for the heck of it. And I have to say, that I enjoyed it quite a bit as a whole. Some of the spoofs were really silly, (as in, not worthy of Star Wars) but most everything else was great, the story detailing Padme's first boyfriend was sweet, and the one about Darth Vader and Threepio almost had me in tears. So, I'd recommend this one to anyone with a reasonable amount of EU experience, and a good sense of humor. Good for all ages.

A collection of short tales about a wide range of Star Wars characters. Some of the characters are major players while others played a smaller role in the main story. Likewise the artwork and style have wide ranges.

As happens with most collections that have a lot of different contributors, fans will almost always find something to like. Unfortunately, they will probably also find something that isn't to their taste as well.

For me, I find more stories to my liking than to my dislike. The artwork for the most part was okay with a couple of really nice works and a few that didn't appeal to me. Overall, a nice addition to the Star Wars collection.

It has tales, and they are from Star Wars. For the penny a page I got them on sale I'm satisfied. They're not exactly chronologically in order, (Tales 2 has a prequel C3PO to Tales 1's intro for example, but go ahead and get the first one. If you like it, get the next - lather rinse repeat until you've had enough.

These are not as good as the best of modern graphic novels, not in terms of artwork or writing, but nostalgia can make up for a lot.

An excellent collection of Star Wars stories from throughout it's history. The stories range is enormous, with some being funny, some serious, and some very surreal. Star Wars fans will get a lot out of this book.

This book is part of the Dark Horse series of Star Wars Tales book. Each book contains a series of short graphic stories set in the Star Wars universe, with each story having been created by a different team. Now, as you might expect with such a book, there is a broad range of styles in writing and in illustrating the story.

I must say that I enjoyed this book as much as I have all the other books in the series. My favorite story was Single Cell, which tells the story Nym, a smuggler and pirate in a tough spot. I also liked Force Fiction, which features Yoda and Mace Windu at a restaurant. (Watch the background for a lot of interesting cameo appearances!)

I enjoyed my time reading this book, even the stories that were not my favorite, and I don't hesitate to recommend it.

This is an issue with the book itself or the condition of which it might have been stored. The binding is not set very well and the pages come loose. I read each edition I ordered (I ordered all six volumes) and in almost each on pages were coming loose after only one reading. If you want to read this in anything other than ideal conditions then don't expect it to last very long.

Star Wars. Ever since I've had coherent thought, I've known Lucas' universe. These tales are a series of entertaining yarns that is worth buying just for the Pulp Fiction spoof. I'd advise casual fans to read something like "Heir to the Empire" by Timothy Zahn, but you hardcore Star Wars fans will get all the in-jokes and cross references in these stories. Check these out!
