Oddly enough, my first order did not arrive in my packaging and Amazon accidently sent me a lightning charger cable. I was like, "what?" Anyway, I sent a replacement request to Amazon and received the correct product a few days later. Gotta love the customer service at Amazon. Buy with confidence.
If you are experiencing a similar situation to mine, you should definitely get this item. Oh, and a bonus is that it will help extend your connection by about 5", which was also perfect for my needs because I already had my case cables tied down and I did not need to cut my zip ties to use this power cable. Outstanding!
So a couple of power supplies later his machines where up and running, Only thing was the power supplies that I used where a bit short on SATA adaptors, but had plenty of molex, this was great for the older machines but I needed one of these bad boys to get the DVD drive on his new PC running. It worked perfectly would be better if it had some potential for daisy chaining but for my needs this one was perfect.
Then, you'll fight to get it unplugged from the four-pin molex, and be thankful that the four-pin molex is dying off.
This thing saved my tail tonight. I needed to replace the hard drive in my wife's desktop with an SSD since the hard drive was failing. I wasn't certain if the power supply had another SATA power plug, so I added one of these on to the SSD order just in case. I'm glad I did; there were no other usable SATA power plugs available in the case. I used this only for migrating the data from the hard drive to the SSD; the hard drive got plugged into the original SATA power plug the hard drive was using before. Now this adapter sides in my computer-goon bag-o-tools.
I didn't think to check the color coding of the wires on the molex side, which someone else posted about. Glad I got one that was wired right and didn't let any magic smoke out.
What else can I tell you about 18 gauge wire connecting to a Female SATA and male MOLEX.
Star Tech does make quite a few useful adapters and cables, so I own many of them. They are never high quality or low, but they are always low priced.
So why mess around with some sub par, five and a half inch, off brand connector when the original Star Tech is available.
