From the manufacturer
High-performance 10Gbps ports
The two 10Gbps ports are useful for accessing high-performance, bandwidth-hogging devices such as storage arrays, 3D scanners, audio-video capture and broadcast devices, and external SSD drives. The Thunderbolt 3 port can also be used for connecting a second 10Gbps USB-C device.
When only one port is being accessed, the full dedicated 10Gbps is available. If both 10Gbps ports are being accessed at the same time, the bandwidth being provided to each device will be 5Gbps.
Dedicated 5Gbps ports
The two 5Gbps ports can provide 5Gbps of bandwidth to each device simultaneously, making it ideal for devices such as portable hard drives. You can also connect low-bandwidth devices such as USB flash drives.
The front USB-A port supports both data and charging. The adapter does not need to be connected to a Thunderbolt 3 computer in order to charge your mobile devices.
Extend your workstation
The adapter features a second Thunderbolt 3 port that you can use to connect an additional display to your laptop (a USB-C video adapter may be required). The port can also be used to connect additional Thunderbolt devices, daisy-chaining up to six devices in all.
Connect high-bandwidth devices such as such as storage arrays, 3D scanners, audio-video capture and broadcast devices and external SSD drives to the 10Gbps ports.
Add two 10Gbps ports (one USB-A and one USB-C) and two 5Gbps USB-A ports, without losing the Thunderbolt 3 port on your laptop.
Connect multiple bus powered SSDs with dedicated bandwidth for faster read write access.
Connect low-bandwidth and legacy USB devices such as a keyboard, mouse or USB flash drive to the 5Gbps ports.
Connect a Thunderbolt 3 laptop to your existing USB 3.0 devices, such as USB 3.0 docking station, printer, hubs.
- Add multiple devices to your Thunderbolt 3 laptop with a total shared bandwidth of 20Gbps
- USB-A charge port charges your devices with no host connection required

This high-performance Thunderbolt 3 adapter lets you add two 4K HDMI monitors to a computer through a single Thunderbolt 3 port (USB-C ). The Thunderbolt video adapter is compatible with computer systems that support Thunderbolt 3, such as models of Dell Precision and Dell XPS. Multitask at the highest resolution Thunderbolt 3 enables you to use a single port on your laptop to output dual 4K resolution to two independent displays. This performance enables you to run the most resource-demanding applications imaginable on two independent displays. You can output independent content to each display at resolutions of up to 4096 x 2160p @ 30Hz, which is great for editing 4K video or performing other Ultra HD tasks such as creating CAD drawings or reviewing medical imagery. Supports dual 4K displays to work more efficiently Functioning as an external 2-port graphics adapter with audio support, this is a compact and convenient alternative to a laptop dock, when you don’t need full docking capability. With two UHD 4K displays, you can work more efficiently from laptop computers such as your Dell Precision, so you can accomplish more in the same amount of time. Plus, with each display delivering 4K performance, you can have four times the screen space compared to 1080p. Creative professionals can be more productive with the freedom to edit 4K video on one display, while previewing raw video playback on the second 4K display. Won't drain system resources This adapter helps to keep your system running at peak performance. Unlike USB external video solutions, Thunderbolt 3 lets you run Ultra HD 4K resolution at 60Hz on both displays without draining system resources. Because it’s backward compatible with your high-definition 1080p displays, this is a great accessory for home, office or other desktop workspace applications. The TB32HD2 is backed by a 2-year StarTech.com warranty and free lifetime technical support. Your computer’s Thunderbolt 3 ports might not function properly until you update one or more of the following on your computer: BIOS Thunderbolt firmware Thunderbolt 3 controller drivers Thunderbolt 3 software The required updates will vary depending on your computer. I'm currently using it with a 2016 MacBook Pro after modifying the operating system to enable old Thunderbolt 3 devices such as this one. This operation is painless but not for the faint of heart, and needs to be re-applied after every operating system update. Regardless, I've been using the adapter this way for weeks and neither the adapter or my computer is broken yet.
If you're technical enough to apply the operating system hack and own a Dual DisplayPort monitor like the Dell Ultra HD 5K Monitor UP2715K 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor, then this is your best bet. Alternatively, you can buy two DisplayPort-to-USB-C cables, but that's more expensive and uses up two ports on your laptop.
Hopefully StarTech will release this product with new hardware for Apple's laptops soon.
Since plugging them in tonight, Ive had to deal with this almost 10 times.

Update1: added one more photo of the breakdown I got the next morning.
Update2: received an replacement, determined it's likely a compatibility issue because I got the same problem. In short, this simply might not work for you (see my own response to this review for more detail).
I connected a thunderbolt ssd (LaCie rugged 256GB) through this (with internal ssd disconnected from mobo) and it was recognized on boot. I was able to wipe the external ssd and do a clean win 10 install with no problems (then reconnected internal ssd).
Now I have a dual boot system when the external ssd is attached via this adapter. Works great!
I considered using the AkiTio Thunder3 enclosure with an existing ssd I had but the AkiTio is less portable than my solution.
