I have 2 PS3s and 1 PS4.
- It could capture fine with component on one of my PS3s because it has very, very old firmware. Didn't work with my other PS3. However, I had to switch it to 1080i.
- I could not capture with HDMI with any of my PS3s or PS4.
- I've used with VirtualDub and the program that came with me (StreamCatcher?) Both giving me the same results.
- I would get NOTHING with the PS3s and I could only get Audio from the PS4.
- With the PS4 I've tried both turning the HDMI Link and HDCP off. That didn't work. The same audio only, no video.
- When I tried using Safe Mode with the PS4, all I got was the sign "HDCP." At that point, no video and audio at all. It wouldn't change to anything else. When I re-checked it, HDCP and the link was still both OFF.
- VirtualDub, when I check Video Source, it gave me "No video sources." But it did recognize the PCI "SA7160, Analog Capture (#01) (DirectShow)
I know I couldn't be complaining about the HDCP thing, but I don't think that's the real issue for me. I get audio and no video. HDCP doesn't do that. HDCP would just give you a logo at startup. On a different note, I tested it with my PS TV (Vita). With that, I get video and no audio. I don't understand it anymore. It doesn't make sense. My PS3s, PS4, and Vita works perfectly fine with Asus Monitor. I have 3 different HDMIs and I tested it with all of them. Nothing new. Tried looking on line
I could capture with just component and have it be 720p, but that's not what I truly want. I'm just going to return this and get something else.
Has good quality, I have not had any issues. I just wish my DSLR had full clean output. I basically use my DSLR as a streaming camera... Drivers work with OpenBroadcasterSoftware (I crop out the edges to give it a full screen appearance). Supposedly you cant use it with HDCP compliant devices. I have not tried any such device because I have no intention on recording videos that are copyrighted.
Cons-
The drivers for the card are very limited. It works and you can use it with recording software like OBS but you cant adjust a whole lot of settings. I imagine it can be programmed otherwise but i dont think StarTech will be doing that anytime soon.
The few things that are a little bit off are these:
1.) The card is attached to the metal platter very poorly. When I go to plug the accessory cable in, the whole board gets pushed back. I do NOT like that at all.
2.) The board gets very hot when being used, so I need to provide better cooling for my system.
Other than those two things that I am a bit concerned about, the card WORKS GREAT! Make sure you download the latest drivers online. The card acts as a webcam-like device. Basically an imaging device. So I was even able to connect it to Google Hangouts, and connect my HD Video Camera to this card and use that as my webcam. It's really nice what this card can handle.
Lastly, just make sure you meet somewhere above the specified system requirements.
Despite that the card didn't work, I give them 5 stars for the wonderful customer service.
the other is the capture software is horrible, just horrible, it dose not work right and dose not work at all in windows 8. skype is the only thing i ever had properly control this card and that's bad.
By comparison, StarTech's device (apparently a rebranded Micomsoft? It seems to work with the Micomsoft drivers) has quite a lot of improvement. Support for high-resolution progressive scan modes, a variety of inputs for many things (component, HDMI, and DVI), and I can play fast-paced games like Mortal Kombat on my PS3 without it even batting an eye. StarTech's included StreamCatcher software has a couple of frustrating "features" (like the status bars that constantly pop into view when the mouse so much as jitters), but I've personally used it to record many videos, take many screenshots, and show my friends via Livestream Procaster.
The software is easily replaceable by something more powerful, like the popular AmaRecTV. The device itself seems almost flawless.
I feel it worth noting that this device is NOT HDCP-certified, which means that devices like certain Blu-Ray players and the Playstation 3 will not output on this device via HDMI. Spend the extra cash on a component video cable; if you're anything like me, you won't even notice the difference.

capture to AVI or MP4 up to 1920X1080 which can be converted to other formats easily enough.
