Needed Gigabit LAN solution for dead MacBook Pro port...

I tested the 3 main brands of these that Amazon stocks in my MACBOOK PRO, I did not test windows functionality. There is a clear winner of the 3 and that is the StarTech one. Why: the ONLY one of these that includes a full-sized driver CD in the box. They should know these will be used in laptops and you CANNOT put an 8cm CD in a slot-loading CD drive! Mac drivers, tight slot connection, and having the smallest cable connection module were the winning points for me.
Pro/Cons...
StarTech Pros: smallest point of cable connection module, full-size driver CD, best "retention" strength in the slot, lifetime warranty, great support website, readily available MAC & Win drivers for the Realtek 81xx chip, didn't get warm at all.
StarTech Cons: it is the most $$$ out of the 3, but still only 35 bucks.

I/O Crest Pros: cheapest of the 3, middle-sized point of cable connection module.
I/O Crest Cons: worst support website, NO MAC DRIVER for this Agere ET-131x chip, weak slot "retention", only 8cm driver CD, gets pretty warm, only 1 year warranty.

Syba Pros: doesn't get very warm, readily available drivers for the Realtek 81xx chip
Syba Cons: 1 year warranty, only 8cm driver CD, weakest slot "retention", very LARGE-blocky point of cable connection module: it sticks WAY out & way UP makes it easy to bump & it slips out killing connection.

After procrastinating for the past few years, I decided I wanted to transfer my DV tapes from my camcorder to a more reliable media (DVDs) and set out to find out how. With the power of Windows 7, an internet search, and the use of the original manual for my Sharp Viewcam Z (circa +/- 2001) I discovered the need for a IEEE 1394 4-Pin/6-Pin FireWire Cable and a Firewire card for my Toshiba laptop. Where else to start my search the then the ever reliable internet that pointed me to the trustworthy and always reliable.....you guessed it, Amazon.com. After reading previous reviews, I new this was my course of action. I ordered the ExpressCard and the cable (sold separately) and all arrived in a timely manner. I plugged the card into my expansion slot and Windows 7 recognized it immediately and installed all the necessary drivers. Thinking this is way too easy I attached cable to camera and then to card expecting an error message or something to that effect. Nope, Windows Live Movie Maker immediately recognized my device and off we went. Did a test download and low and behold, I was reliving experiences from 8 years ago. Now all I have to do is learn all the offerings of Movie Maker and I will be able to cut, edit, and create DVDs of events from the past. Beats paying the outrageous prices some companies offer to just transfer tape to DVD. All I need now is time and patience to complete project. Thanks to Amazon.com, I am on my way.

My onboard LAN is crap, and I need one wired connection for potential network troubleshooting purposes, so I wanted an inexpensive PCIe card. Nothing fancy, just a plain old wired connection. I installed this card and booted to Ubuntu, which picked up the card and connected fine. Then, I booted to Win7 to check that, but it needed a driver. I put the minidisc that came with the card in the drive, expecting to see the installation for some useless and entirely unnecessary "connection manager" software, but I was wrong...lo and behold, there was a beautiful little INF! I installed the driver and the card works great. It's been a long, long time since I've come across a piece of hardware that came with *just* the driver I need to make it work. No crappy software that I refuse to install because it's not necessary, it sucks resources I could better use for something else and pisses me off because it plops itself into startup without being invited. No digging the driver out of said crappy software install file because I refuse to actually install it. Just. The. Driver. I was practically moved to tears.

My motherboard's LAN port died out of the blue so picked one of these up as a cheap alternative vs. replacing the motherboard. I was a little worried reading that there was no dedicated driver support for Windows 10, and that speeds were limited to 100 Mbps due to Windows default drivers. After installing the card the properties showed my Ethernet speed capable of 1 Gbps. I ran a couple tests on Speedtest.net and was averaging 180 Mbps down and 10 up (Pay for a 150 Mbps package). I normally don't write reviews, but wanted to let anyone know who was having doubts like I did that this card works fine on Windows 10 (I have installed the Windows 10 Anniversary update, not positive of the driver results pre-update)

Perfect for IPfire or pfSense

From the description I expected to receive a full size Mini PCI-e card, but this is actually a Half Mini PCI-e card.
I purchased this for a cheap Dell FX160 to add a second ethernet adapter so I can use the computer as a router/firewall. It has worked so far with IPFire and pfSense 2.1.
So far it has been working flawlessly for almost a month. It was immediately recognized in Ubuntu but I have not tried it with any version of Windows.
UPDATE: At first I could not get this to work with pfSense. It seemed to recognize the adapter but after setup I was unable to connect to it.
Due to another user's comment I decided to try it one more time and it is now working perfectly with pfSense 2.1!

I knew from EveryMac that some Cisco/Broadcom cards could be used in Macs, being seen as Airport/Airport Extreme by the OS. Looked here and saw a review that said it could be used with a Powerbook G4 using 10.4.11, so I decided to try it on a Powerbook G3 with 10.4.11.
