5.0 out of 5 starsGreat, inexpensive power supply.
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2010
Purchased this item to replace the 200 watt unit in my HP Pavilion 742n bought back in 2002. The old unit was working fine but I replaced the motherboard with one with a faster CPU that required a minimum of 230 watts. At first, I thought that I was going to have to return it. The old unit was 4 inches long and this unit is 5 1/2 inches long. When I installed it, it was so close to the DVD ROM that the wiring was smashed up against it. This tower originally came with both a CD ROM and DVD ROM. I had already replaced the CD ROM with an HP 1140i DVD/CD writer Lightscribe unit. I noticed that it was shorter and didn't have a clearance issue like the DVD ROM. I don't use the DVD ROM and didn't really need it since I got the 1140i so I just removed it. Problem solved! I'm glad that I was able to get it to fit. The safety features of this unit give me added peace of mind. It has 6 four pin molex connectors, 2 more than the original unit, which came in handy. I was using a splitter with the original unit to power a PCI slot cooling fan and exhaust fan. The unit is very quiet. Overall, I'm very pleased with this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bargain; for Quiet, 300 watt PS. V. Pleased

Paid $27.24 ttl ( after Amazon discounted price, FREE saver shipping and $5.00 BillMeLater discount). :<)

Power supply is QUIETER than orginal DELL PS ( also quieter than BESTBUY $80 PS to be returned );-)

It has all the connections ( and more ) that the original PS in my 6 yr. old Dell Dimension had. Connected easily and snugly.

Unit fits snugly in case. PS Screw holes just slighly mis-aligned to case ( BESTBUY $80 did fit perfectly ).

If you need a 330 watt PS; don't hesitate on this one.

note : I hope it DOES last longer than a previous
reviewer's 15 mos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect replacement for orignal ATX supply build in 2003
Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2019
Verified Purchase
My original ATX power supply manufactured in 2003 was damaged by a power surge. Usually (though not always) surge damage is limited to the supply itself, so I ordered the StarTech supply with the same 300 watt rating as the original. The mounting screws are all the same, as is the cable harness with a 20-pin connector for the motherboard. All the other cables matched up as well, so installation was easy.

The only difference is that the new supply has manual on/off switch on the back panel, and the old one didn't. Once I remembered to turn that on, the computer powers up when I press the power button and works perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great replacement for older motherboards
Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2019

I'm giving this 5 stars on the basis that it is designed to be used for older PCs with 20-pin power connectors / 4-pin voltage connector. In that respect, I'm glad that there is still a company out there that's making them.

That being said, I actually purchased this for an older system that happened to have a 24-pin connector but also works with 20-pin. Since it's a low power Intel Atom based system, it can work with either type. The instructions manual even showed this on mine, so if you aren't sure, check your motherboard manual first.

If you're buying a power supply for a new, modern rig with the latest everything then you should look for something else.

Be on notice this PS does not have but one (1) SATA terminal and you will have to find MOLEX to SATA jumpers if your machine has more than one SATA connection !!!
I am returning this Power Supply. I want the correct terminals without needing to cob together a hack-job wiring system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought it was dead. Guess not

Thought it was dead. After some reading, I found out that I would need to cut the green wire on the ATX plug and ground it. This would trick the power supply into starting. I guess with my setup and motherboard, nothing was telling the supply to turn on. I really wish it had an override switch or something.

3.0 out of 5 stars ONE (1) SATA connector, 20-pin MB power
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2018

One (1) SATA power connector? In 2018? Seriously? I can use either my hard drive or my DVD drive, but not both?

It's got six of last century's disk power connectors, but that doesn't do me much good.

Had to order contemporary connector adapters separately to (hopefully) make this work. Presumably it'll work OK when they arrive, but this is very annoying. (Need 20 - to - 24 ping MB power adapter, too.)

I searched Amazon for power supplies for my specific model of computer, and this came up at the top, which makes this particularly annoying.
