Product Description

The PCMACLINK2 USB to USB data transfer cable offers direct file transfers via USB connection between two computers (PC and Mac, PC and PC, Mac and Mac). The USB data transfer cable eliminates the complicated network setup required to transfer files between computers, or the need to use external storage devices to transfer files back and forth, saving time and hassle. Once the cable has been connected, a built-in software suite will automatically install on each computer, which not only creates a convenient path for the file transfers but also allows you to sync e-mails from Microsoft Outlook, synchronize the contents of entire folders, or even share CD/DVD drive access and an Internet connection (between two Windows-based computers).

Wanted to transfer important documents and precious pictures from a PC to a Mac. Had asked advice from experts, and was overwhelmed with suggestions of (expensive) external hard drives . . . . at which point, not being a computer geek, my eyes glazed over. This transfer cable was simplicity itself, and the task was accomplished swiftly by a complete novice - me, myself and I! Easy to follow instructions, and with drag-and-drop the process was quickly completed. What more could one ask?

I needed this to transfer files from an old WinXP computer to a new Win7 system. I just positioned the old CPU tower next to my new system, turned both on, hooked up the transfer USB cable and it all came up on the new monitor. Just click/hold/drag from the old system to the new. Worked flawlessly.

After reading so many great reviews, I thought this was my solution to moving a large amount of data from my old Windows 7 64-bit laptop to my new Mac Book Air. I even paid for rush shipping so I could make the transition between work trips. Not sure if it is just my laptops, but I got nowhere with this. This cable is supposed to be plug and play. Well, I connected it to my Mac first and waited until the software downloaded. Then I connected the other end of the cable to my ThinkPad, which also seemed to download the software as expected. This is as far as I got. Even though both laptops could tell that the other laptop was connected, there was no way to push the files from my pc to the mac. I tried selecting the "Go! Bridge" option on the pc; the program would go no further. The "timer" icon just spun in a circle and the program froze. Eventually I received a Windows error that the program had stopped responding. I tried rebooting, disconnecting the cable and reconnecting, and switching which end plugged into which computer, all to no success. I looked at the instructions (same ones posted on StarTech website as are in the box). All they say is to go to "Go! Bridge" and drag and drop files. That was never an option; no folders were visible on either system. I went to "Finder" on the mac, and Windows Explorer on the pc. Still nothing. I finally had to give up and go the old school route, copying every folder to an external drive and uploading to the mac manually. What a pain! I am incredibly disappointed in this product.

Great way to connect a Mac directly to a PC to transfer files. Just plug the ends of the cable into USB ports on the two computers. The software is actually built into the cable, so no software installation necessary.

I used a PC for years and easily transferred voluminous files, until the number and size of the files became exceedingly cumbersome. I bought an iMac when I finally tired of crashing and upgrading, and then crashing and upgrading some more. My last PC would not support an upgrade to Windows 7, but it makes an excellent storage drive for the iMac through the use of this transfer cable.

This is one of those purchases that you hope for. I plugged the cable into my Imac and my Mac pro laptop and started transferring files immediately. The cable performed exactly as advertised. It is so easy to use the cable and not rely on the local area net connections, ethernet, or the bluetooth connections. You just gotta love SIMPLE. This is an OUTSTANDING time saver and is easy to use.

I have not tried it with a PC to Mac connection. However, I never bother with PCs anymore anyway.

This cable works as advertised, but you need to read the instructions carefullly. Fortunatey, the instructions are fairly clear, and written in (real) English. It took me a while to get it up and running, and I had to make a boot floppy (remember those?) for the second computer per the instructions, but the results were worth the trouble. Once the bi-directional link is established, it is very easy to copy files from one computer to another -- just drag and drop. Each computer opens up a directory window labeled "the other computer" adjacent to a directory window for itself. So, you see both directories on both computers.

I don't want to slam the product because I do not know why it did not work. The second I plugged it to my new HP Pavilion Win 8 laptop it caused rapid multiple flashing massages/beeping on my screen, like it was a strobe. I tried in on a second HP notebook Win 7 and it did the same thing. I was on the phone with tech support for half an hour and then tried on my own for about 4 hours then gave up and sent the product back. I ended up using other software to transfer data being time was a consideration. With this said maybe the cable was bad, had corrupt software or operator error.
