One thing about being older is you often see products that come on the market and then get better or worse as time passes. When I first started using Cyanoacrylates in the 1970's, it seemed like you could almost glue anything to anything else, a truly amazing product. As time went by more people tried it, got careless with it, tried to glue things in a manner that was not the best, etc. So complaints began and one of the first things organizations do is try and protect the world's dummies from themselves, as well as others from them. Things changed, the new 'super glue' was made thicker to fill gaps and made less reactive to allow users time to work with the pieces being repaired but mostly to keep them from adhering themselves to their repair job. Super glue was no longer super, just an OK, sometimes good adhesive.
Industry still had access to the original as well as improved versions, not the newer consumer versions. I had run across Starbond in the past but really didn't have an easy way to purchase it. I purchased a bottle 9 months ago and put it in the refrigerator with the intent of trying it in the future, then forgot about it for 6 months. First time I tried it, I removed it from the refrigerator, let it warm up, used it (successfully) and returned it to the refrigerator. The next three times, I used it cold with successful repairs each time, one being a repair that was tried twice with major brand super glue.
This liquid is thin, like the original as I remember, and wicks into the cracks or seams of the items trying to be repaired or glued together. I have been using a q-tip to apply it, which allows me to get it right where I want it without excess running where it doesn't belong. Will it work for everything? Probably not as the available surface bonds on today's new materials do not act in the same manner as older items. But it is worth a try, just put it back in the fridge when finished.
