This amazing, original and creative novel of science fiction with a tinge of horror is an exciting, suspense filled drama the drives the reader to turn every page. The main character is a young female clone named Lisa. She is a member of an off-world organization of female clones called the women of The Grey, which headed by a dictator called Mother Superior. She behaves a little like a little Hitler. She tries to control humans and the others in her clan with an iron mind and no information other than to obey her rules or else. They have advanced technology that enables the mother superior to move in and out as using a Star Trek like Teleportation system. Observing Lisa, scolding her and urging her on, but never explain the mission, other than, deliver the 5 marks selected from the human low lives living on Feline St.. A place for low life and homeless as well as other society misfits. Lisa has a child’s mind and follows everything as first but her interaction with human leads to her mind questioning things. She follows the rules and tries to complete her mission for a time but suspects Mother Superior wants to kill the marks, one is an innocent child with autism.
The leader of the Grey, Superior Mother keeps Lisa and others uninformed of everything until they complete the horrific mission. She believes that information is earned. Superior Mother keeps her clones ignorant in order to control them. One of the best parts of the book is the depth of the character’s emotion. It is implied that the Superior Mother has devious tools to implant things in human minds! Causing them to create horror for other humans. Lisa feels the horror in her own emotions. She struggles to find light in the darkness. Five stars plus for this genuine thriller. Mark Kingston Levin
This book will go back and forth between different people. Very different from what I'm use to reading.
The mysterious and murderous Women of the Grey are both chilling and strangely compelling. A race of clone like women, living apart in an attempt to hide their alien origin, they are occasionally sent forth into the world on mysterious missions. We follow Lisa, one such woman, in this book, and see how she very literally touches the lives of others, while she also learns what life outside the Grey is truly like. It is a coming of age story like no other, as she struggles to understand human nature while fighting her own, and this journey is truly a compelling one.
I read a review copy of this book, all opinions are my own.
