I will start off by saying that I read every review on here and a few chat sites about this tank. The first thing I asked Empire was could they build the stand before shipping and with no hesitation they replied yes. Perfect, one issue I read done, complete with no headache for me. The second was to ask if they could provide SCH40 bulkhead fittings, both 1/2 and 1 inch because I plan to hard plumb the sump. Again, with no hesitation they replied yes and put them in the box with the tank. Now with 2 of the major issues out of the way I can focus on the overall project. I would highly suggest that you apply a good amount of aquarium sealant between the rubber gasket and the tank when u install your bulkheads. Not 100% sure it's needed but it doesn't hurt and a little piece of mind. Outside of that, I'm pretty impressed by the tank and stand. I see some comments on how sturdy the stand is and from what I see it's pretty damn robust. It's heavy, thick and honestly kind of a pain to start a screw in when your securing all of you cords. Again, I'm just in the setup stage so I can't speak to the durability of the pumps and skimmer but I will update as needed. The one thing that stands out to me is the customer service. I had several questions and within hours they replied. I like that especially when you can't see what your ordering. A+ to Empire for that.
I like it - BUT: I could find nothing about assembly, plumbing, operation from the MFG. I'm an amateur, second tank I've assembled (first was a 75). This is my first Sump design. I found a few photos from Mfg, showing assembly, but not much. Even the Protein skimmer came with only a photo showing assembled unit. No instructions. I'm pretty handy, and mechanical. I found some sump theory, a couple of YouTube videos, and a very nice pictorial steps on Reef Central. Without those, I'd probably had been lost. I spent the day plumbing (the base arrived assembled). Filling it now. MY RECOMMENDATION - Great tank and set up IF you know what you're doing. Wouldn't recommend for first tank, or those less mechanical - unless you hire a pro to assemble.
Customer Service: The tank came with a huge scratch and the stand came damaged. The stand piece and tank were replaced asap. I made sure to look in to SCA's customer service before buying this tank. They followed through.
Quality of materials: The tank is awesome!! Glass is super clear on all sides. Silicone work is perfect. The back of the tank is painted black, but has a clear vertical stripe on the overflow area. This makes it so you can see the water level in the overflow from the back of the tank. PVC T Bar that returns sump water should be shipped black in my opinion. I spray painted it black though and it looks great now. Return pump is just okay, I would have chosen a different one, but it works fine. Skimmer is great. This is my third SCA 301 and they all are underrated. Best cheap skimmer that actually works for small tanks.
Delivery: The semi truck that was delivering the tank wasn't able to make it down my street, so I had to go and meet him a couple miles away. Luckily I had a truck and he could just use the liftgate to put it right in the truck bed. In other situations, I am not sure how they would deliver the tank.
Would I purchase again? Definitely! Check out my page Aqua Culture Alachua for more video reviews.

At first I thought AIT was Too Good of a Deal To Be True. However I Still Order It and It Far Succeeded My Expectations. The Quality Is Premium Beautiful Cut And Put Together Nice and Solid.Sump is Very Well Build And Strong as well The Stand Has a Beautiful Finish To It and its been wet several Times Inside and The Water easy Wipes off.No water damage so Far.The Skimmer takes a Lil bit to adjust However onced adjusted its a Beast. All Plumbimb parts are supplied.I Just had to buy a few at my local Home depot to hard Plumb the pipes I added a reverse durso To Completely Silence it along with a Return Gate Valve.
The Fish tank arrived in a Big pallet a few days after I order it a lot sooner than I expected.
I would probably say this is THE BEST AQUARIUM YOULL FIND ANY WHERE FOR THIS PRICE.
The tank and stand are absolutely gorgeous. It's been a long haul. The pnp came without the parts and sump. Company promply sent sump and parts out. Butttttt UPS had to mess it up, sump came broken. Company is promptly sending out a new one. Although a heartbreaking build, it will get done. Company is packing sump with plywood. Keeping fingers crossed. The only downside is the fittings to bulkheads. New parts from Depot will ensure the 90's stay in. Bummer on no detailed directions. As a old timer with hob overflows this got a lil confusing. Company promptly answered the 3rd drain question and Herbie overflow. I'll update with pics. Company has been amazing......UPS you suck breaking my and companies stuff. The plus side to this build is patience. Love the tank. I'll always had used and in 20 years this is my first birthday new tank. Love sc aquariums.
Highly recommend these tanks. I wish the overflow was a little less bulky but it seems to work well. The skimmer is not the best but it does what it’s supposssed to do. Plumb it your own way instead of th soft tubing it works a lot better. Owned and set up for over two years now. And moved it once, everything is still great on it! And the customer service was excellent!
Several issues with fittings you would think because it is suppose to be plug and play this would not be an issue. tank is beautiful skimmer works nicely sump is nice. Serious issue with return pump and hose fitting together has came off and sprayed water several times. I Ordered new pump. When you order this I highly advise just looking for a combination return pump, power heads, and heater. Many packages sold featuring just these items and will save you the headache of mixing and matching.
