After a bad break-up, Nicole Alexander is ready for a change. When she inherits a house on Starfish Island from a grandmother she never knew, it seems like the perfect opportunity for starting over. But soon after moving in, Nicole starts getting messages warning her to leave. She is determined to get to the bottom of the hauntings, Nicole starts an investigation. When things get hot and heavy with one of the island’s most charismatic residents, Michael Edwards, made a promise to Nicole's grandmother that he will look after her. Her lawyer told her that Michael was after her property and that her grandmother ask him to marry her. Will Nicole discover the reason for the island’s hostility before it’s too late? Can she fall for a man she doesn’t exactly trust? She doesn't know who to believe or trust especially when her ex boyfriend shows up trying to win her back.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. If you like mystery and romance together especially mystery then this is the book for you most mysteries they have now are more scared than a mystery but I throughly enjoyed this book.
I was hooked on the mystery behind everything more so than the romance but with that part playing in the story line, I became complete intrigued as to how it was going to end. In fact, I read it all within an afternoon/evening and when it was over, I know my mouth was hanging open! At one point, I was so engrossed in the story that when my son touched my shoulder to ask me a question (for the third time!), I nearly jumped out of my skin!
I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.
Ms. Brown keeps the characters interesting and unique, while giving the reader a glimpse into the lies hidden in Starfish Island. Slowly unraveling the story and adding enough twists that you never quite know what is going to happen next.
A strong female lead and a handsome stranger most definitely make for interesting bedfellows. I can say that the steamy moments intermingled with spine-tingly moments keep you on edge.
There were moments when the plot dragged a bit for me, but overall was a great way to spend a quiet weekend. Suspense, romance, and lies surround the cast of characters and make for an intriguing read.
Nicole is an interesting main character. She is an artist, she is basically alone and adrift in life. She doesn't know who to trust or what to believe, and the author puts us right there with her from beginning to end.
Content warning: There are a few rather explicit sexual scenes---but you can always skip through those if that isn't your "cup of tea."
I certainly hope that Ms. Brown will be writing more novels like this one!

I'll admit I'm a little biased. I've read Brown's Paradise series and had a fondness for her writing going into Starfish Island. But this is a sharp curve away from her light beach series. There is a darkness here that kept me intrigued way past my bed time!
