Although the actual DVD set isn't out as of the time I write this, the 4th season finished airing months ago and now since they have the page for pre-order up, I've been kinda itching to write a review.

Well as this season starts off from the 3rd season cliffhanger, it is definately off to an awesome start. Atlantis lost, adrift in space and running out of power. To conserve energy, they shrink the shield down to a small section of the city and then what happens?...Atlantis runs into an asteroid belt! Then to get more power, they actually raid the Asuran homeworld for ZPM's using Dr. Weir! A very entertaining beginning.

While the majority of episodes are hits, such as the episode where a disease causes everyone to lose their memories(Tabula Rasa) or the one where Teal'c comes for a visit(Midway); there are some that fall short of their potential for giving more or are just plain boring! For example: the end-season cliffhanger! This is the first time I've ever been disappointed with an Atlantis cliffhanger, not leaving me anxiously curious to see how they get out of that situation, waiting for the next season. It ends with Sheppard and his team searching a building for Teyla, but it self-destructs and collapses in on them. (Zzzzzz...you know they survive it) A better way to end the season would have been to leave Sheppard stranded 48,000 years in the future, revealing more about what happened in the galaxy in all that time and trying to figure out a way to get back home with the McKay hologram's original plan failing to work! Now that sounds like one hell of a cliffhanger!

I reviewed season 3 as well, saying it gives potential for an awesome season 4. Does it live up to that potential? It comes close, but unfortunately no it doesn't. Why?

I think that Stargate Atlantis Season 4 is well worth watching. I would agree with other reviewers that Carter should have been in more episodes (it was fun to see how she and McKay got along). I also agree that I continually expected to see something else on Weir and the Replicators, but it never happened. However, I think overall this season was great. I can't wait to own it on DVD this summer or for the next season. I hope it lasts as long as SG-1, or even longer!

While this is still a great show and one of my favorites, Season 4 seems to know that they do not have all that many years left and as it turned out, they were right. The coming and going of cast members is a bane to almost every series, but when you start to lose key characters, for whatever reason, it seems, based on why I seen over the years, that the show is nearing it's shelf life. I know some of this is quite vague, but don't wish to spoil season 4 for the few that have not seen it. All in all this really is a good series and I would recommend it.

The crew of the Atlantis keeps right on going on missions and combating the Wraith. They finally get rid of the Nanobots as well. I really enjoyed the series. However I did not like the replacing of Elizabeth Weir as the commander of Atlantis with Samantha Carter. She is a great actress and comes from Stargate: SG-1. Her character on SG-1 is the Rodney of the Atlantis galaxy. She seems content to leave all of the science stuff to Rodney while she does Administrative things. That didn't make sense to me.

Here is the deal in my opinion. Stargare SG-1 all seasons 5 stars. Stargate Atlantis all seasons 4 stars. Stargate Universe 3.5 stars. Why? SG-1 was the best of them. Great acting, great writing, etc. Atlantis was good but many situations in the story were manipulated by the writers which were clearly NOT in the military realm of possibilities. Like the team keep getting captured and then had to escape. What were the writers thinking. Who were these guys high school drop outs. This kind of situation persisted through out the series. Finally Universe was clearly the worse offender. Lost in space meets Sci- fi 2000. Bad premise to start a series. People kept switching sides. People died and reappeared as ghosts etc etc. The journey was not all that splendorific either. I struggled through 20 episodes; the end which shows the "Destiny" flying off with out resolution of "getting back to Earth" I don't buy "the journey" as the main basis for the story jazz. They had a great opportunity to do some great work and fumbled the ball as far as I am concerned. Ended with a whimper after 2 seasons. What does that tell you? Watch at your own risk.

Loved this series from the first episode. All of the characters were great. The stories were awesome. Tons of action, humor, character development, bad aliens, loved the city of Atlantis, and I sincerely wish their were more seasons! Don't miss it. The Stargate franchise should be very proud of their achievements in this wonderful series.

I am a big fan of SGA, but on Friday, January 9th, 2009, the series ends. :( I could go into a long review about SGA, but many others have already done a great job of that. The best recommendation I can give is that it's the only show I've purchased every season of.

I still cannot believe that a show of this quality is being canceled way before it's time. The finale had more that 2 million viewers and that doesn't included DVRs or international audiences or downloaded copies on amazon or those like me that only watch it on DVD. Those ratings were high, especially for a Friday night show on Sci-fi!

I liked SG-1 but I like SGA more. And so do every one of my friends.

There is a campaign to save SGA (that way there will be more seasons to enjoy and buy!) After all, who would want a 2 hour movie when you could have 20 more episodes! But for that to happen, fans need to write in to save Atlantis. There is a lot of discussion/info on sci-fi about the campaign to save SGA. Please check it out.
