It’s 2175 and yep, we’re traversing the solar system from our home planet to the Oort Cloud, the extended spherical shell of icy particles at the edge of the solar system. But as humanity oft does, it is time to push that boundary and explore beyond.
Osterman’s Global Space Alliance is sending Stan and Vivian Jenkens to the mysterious Quadrant 52, a place where previous missions have vanished without a trace, and they are on the precipice of discovery.
Set in a hopeful future this “first contact” story will pit protagonists against the hostile environments of space and the one foe that has faced generations of explorers — the unknown.
This is a well-paced, grounded story that explores the most curious corners of the imaginations through well-developed characters and a good science. Reminiscent of Arthur C. Clark’s original 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Jensens are guided by Einstien (no not that one), a top-of-the-line artificial intelligence computer system and much like Clark’s crew, it is the unknown beyond explored space that will truly challenge the ship and crew the most.
This is a terrific science fiction story with fantastic duel leads and a well thought-out plot that while common to the genre gives a fresh look at the human need to expand and explore the limits of our reach.
