Some of the unpopped corn gets stuck in a popped kernal. Amazing power of the pop! One fluffy corn had 3 unpopped corn kernals embedded in it. I do love this for a quick small batch, and I use it, and eat it with caution so I don't hurt my teeth. I do own and use another popper I have that I don't have to worry about. I am an avid popcorn lover! So, I recommend having both types of poppers to cater to your desire of the moment. I gave this 4 stars due to the fact I can't use my round hole grill sifter to sift out the unpopped kernals.
So yes, the first couple of times I used it, I burned a couple kernels. But then I figured out that i need to stay right by the microwave and listen. I put in around 1/3 cup of kernels and then set the timer to around 2:10. When it starts slowing down and only does a few pops, I stop it and I take it out. Sometimes it needs a little more time (like 5 secs) or sometimes it only needs 1:45 seconds. Are there un-popped kernels? Of course! But that happens in any popcorn popper/bag of popcorn.
Basically, this takes less time than a bag of popcorn and I know that I am not getting any yucky chemicals or GMO popcorn! Win-win!

Besides being cumbersome, less than a third of the kernels pop in the 2 1/2 minutes recommended by the maker; even with twice the minutes little more than half the kernels pop. Read morePublished on January 4, 2013 by H. Richard Mahler, III
