By Mark Baker - Carstairs Considers HALL OF FAMETOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on June 23, 2003
Format: Audio CD
Judging from the title and cover, you'd expect this CD to be nothing but a collection of America's patriotic music. It's got more then that, however, which is a nice addition to the genre.
Sure, it's got some standards from the category. I'm happy to have something with the words to "The Stars and Stripes Forever." They also include "God Bless America," "The Star Spangled Banner," and "God Bless the USA." This is where it ends, however.
The rest of the songs on this CD are classic barbershop songs. Since barbershop, at least for me, gives a certain American nostalgia feel, it works quite well. Highlights from these songs include "A Song like Daddy Used to Play" and "If There's Anybody Here from Out of Town."
I'm not sure which category the closing number, "So Many Voices Sing America's Song," belongs in, but it's new to me and I really like it.
Several songs on the CD include guest appearances from The American Pops Orchestra, The Vocal Majority, and Panache. Each group adds to the overall effect of the CD.
This CD does for Patriotic music what a good Christmas CD does for that genre. It includes enough standards to make it feel appropriate to the season right away but also includes some new songs so you feel like you're getting something original for your money. Well worth the money spent.

A Capella groups, especially the barber shoppers, sometimes think louder is better. The volume should never be more than ff! The Buffalo Bills were the best ever, and I do not think they ever, ever got to a fff! To members of this group: please do not try to sing louder than the buddy next to you. Quality and feeling first. Leave the roof on the place please!

I bought several CDs by the Acoustix for my Dad for Christmas. He and I are both fans of close harmony, and this group is one of the most accomplished he or I have had the pleasure of hearing. If you like close harmony, you will not be disappointed by any of their albums.

The Acoustix are under rated and deserve wider recognition for their performance of "Unchained Melody" this version is like nothing you've heard before. Upbeat tempo fully instrumented with a driving bass. This song would have been top ten in the 60's. Any oldies format station looking for "new" oldies should give this song some exposure.

The Acoustix make you want to sing along with every song they sing. This CD is among the best I've ever heard and I think they should record more just like this one!

"Stars and Stripes" is an excellent addition to the recording library of any person who desires to be musically well-rounded. Barbershop is a little-known art with a rather eclectic (perhaps esoteric) following. Acoustix has already become a favorite of the barbershop enthusiasts around the world, but it also has something to offer to those who are less familiar with the barbershop style. Any American will recognize the patriotic tunes on the CD, but the remainder of the selections may give him a taste of a music genre that he has never savored before. The impeccable blend and incredible skill of this quartet will provide enjoyment each time the CD is played.

This group is by far the finest Barbershop Style Acapella group to ever grace a stage. If you are turned off by the word "BARBERSHOP", you need to listen to these guys. They vocally create so many overtones and undertones that you will not believe you are hearing ONLY FOUR guys singing. This particular package will also thrill you if you have any patriotism and love for the USA at all.
