This continuation of the heartwarming love story of Jess and William, whom we were first introduced to in A Starstruck Kiss, has me over the moon. Their journey together from rival photogs to the loves of each other's lives was one I won't soon forget.
Lauren Blakely has given us once again, a well written and beautiful story that captured my very soul. I loved watching these two young lovers fall for each other, each wondering if the other felt the same. And at the same time, wondering if they had a future.
Jess needed a big payout for capturing a prime photo for her boss, so she could attend med school. And William desperately needed a job that could keep him in the U.S., where he not only loved the land but the feisty, independent girl he had grown to adore in such a short period of time. Deciding the best way to achieve their goals would be to help each other. Then through a series of events, when things finally seem to be going their way, a huge bump in their road threatens to ruin everything. Thankfully with a bit of luck, fate on their side and a whole ton of love between them, things begin to change for the better. They even realized how fast they started to have feelings for each other. But what I absolutely loved was how comfortable they were with each other even from the start. They understood one another and gave each other the support when all hope was lost. Jess and William = kismet.
In true Lauren Blakely fashion, I was reduced to huge sighs when I read that final word. She continues to floor me with creating both characters and scenarios that are just so heartwarming. She never fails to tie in characters from her other books, making each adventure like a family reunion.
There is certainly enough steam in Stars in Their Eyes to cause your ereader to fog over! Again, another trademark of all things Blakely :) Whether it's sweet and tender or hard and fast, this author knows how to get a reaction.
I can't recommend this book and it's prequel novella, A Starstruck Kiss, enough. It has all the ingredients to not only make your day but keep you smiling long after you've finished.
A huge 5 stars!
I have read all of Lauren's books and I love that they are all unique. When I found out she was writing a book with Far Too Tempting leading man Matthew's brother, William I was ecstatic and maybe some fists were flying from excitement. Matthew is one of my favorite Blakely boys so I knew his brother was going to be just as or even more amazing! And then adding Caught up in Us Bryan's sister, Jess to the mix is just perfect.
Jess is putting her self through Med School by taking pictures of celebrities. She works hard as a paparazzo, student, and volunteer and does not have time to be mixed up with relationships. She has had some setbacks in the past so now it's time focus on school and working towards her future as a doctor. That was the plan until she went to see her boss about some pictures and heard a very sexy British accent and a man that was drop dead gorgeous.
William has been in the states for a few years on a student visa but if he doesn't find a job after Graduation in a few months he will be sent packing home. His latest job is a paparazzo is just to get him one step closer to staying but needs full time employment. He is also working with his Uncle by marriage but it's mysterious but it could work in his favor later. This is his main focus until he turns around at the office of J.P's, his boss for Paparazzo gig and sees a beautiful blonde. He thinks she is beautiful but when she she speaks, he is done for, he loves American accents and she is a witty one too...
When William and Jess end up at the same place for a shot that could earn them a good paycheck they have a chance to get to know each other. They are after all enemies when it comes to getting the money shots in this town but there is also an attraction there. In a town full of actors they both have to question one another's motives. They are competitors that end up in the same places. But there is one place they both need to be so can they be partners? Can Jess trust William? Can William get Jess to open up more? Not just about work but about life.
I fell hard for William! He is a sexy motorcycle riding British hottie with so wit and charm. And Jess is a feisty, lovely and an independent woman that I would love to be friends with. There is a type of ease with them but with an underling of mystery. The banter between them is amazing and I can't wait to see what happens next in Stars In Their Eyes!
P.S. Lauren comes up with the Best Dog Names Ever! That is all.
"I should go."
"I'm sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way."
"You didn't rub me in any way at all," I said hastily, then instructed my brain to remove all thoughts of rubbing-the right way, of course, because he'd do it the right way. I was sure he'd do everything the absolute, toe-curling mind-blowing way.
She shot me sharp look. Oh, she was an independent little American vixen. What a turn-on. Feistiness was like a drug to me.
"Of course I like the movies," I said rolling my eyes, as if that would work as my Smart Guy Repellent so I could keep him at bay.
STARS IN THEIR EYES:
I know I say this in all my reviews for Lauren's books but I have read them all and love them all for different reasons. They are unique, especially this story. Going to keep it short so I don't give anything away :-)
Stars In Their Eyes picks right up from where A Starstuck Kiss ended. She still needs to be the one to get the shot of the year that would pay for a few years of school. And the man to help her was William. And he needed her to help him land a job to secure his future in America.
They had a plan. A good one. But nothing is ever easy and they learned that lesson. When Jess takes another job in the process things get down right scandalous. This is Tinsel Town after-all, nothing is what it seems. Jess and William find that things are more twisted than they even thought and it all started with just one call. They want to find the real story. Will they find it even with all the twists and turns?
William also wants Jess to admit that she does not only see him as a means to an end. He wants her to trust him even though he might only have two months left in the states. He knows she felt something was there but she worries about her past struggles and not being In control. Jess truly does like William a lot and when they do have their sexy moments it is off the charts hot but can it be more? Can she open up to someone and let go of the past? Does William get sponsored so he can stay? Can Jess figure out a way to pay for school?
I loved William like crazy. He is not only sexy but funny and sweet. It also helps that he speaks five languages but Italian is my personal favorite. Jess is quick witted, smart and knows her stuff. They both have to deal with some serious issues but Lauren has a way to keep it light-hearted but emotional at the same time. I also like surprises and mystery so it was a perfect blend of everything I need to keep me wanting more. While reading Lauren's books it's so fun to spot a past couple and see what they are up to, the little connections.
This story was extra fun for me because I enjoy celebrity gossip. I don't buy into everything I read and do believe they are real people with real issues but they are interesting to me. You get to see both sides of paparazzi and their subjects. There is so much more I can say about this book! But I will end this part with saying Matthew Harrigan was my favorite British Book Boyfriend but sorry Matthew, your brother has taken that spot from you. I fell hard and fast for him but still love you <3
Though, in all honesty, she'd be be hot to me if she had purple hair. Blue hair. Green hair. Didn't matter. It was her attitude that had hooked me from the start.
A small groan escaped my lips. I bent my head to her neck, pressing a light kiss near her earlobe, then whispered, "Lettuce, Grapefruit, Whole wheat bread."
I shook my head, like a dog shaking off water. "You're wearing a skirt, I said." My jaw was possibly still scraping the floor.
"Very good, William. You have excellent sartorial identification skills." She gestures to me. "You're wearing jeans and a t-shirt," she said, as speaking to a young child. "Now can you try naming this?" She tugged at her tank top.
"There's a dividing line between celebrities and the rest of us. You stay on your side, Jess, and you never ever apologize for a photo. We're all just trying to make a living in this town."
And I guess I still take it for granted how amazing it is to live in the great US of A. Never thought a Brit would want to stay in our country and have a hard time of getting hired on a full time work VISA.
My husband and I met and were engaged 6 weeks later so I get the quick falling in love plot. Yes, it really does happen.
I was routing for the two of them throughout. I cringed when Jess found William with “the enemy”, although I felt sure there had to be an explanation. I’m just glad she gave him the chance to explain. I also fiat pumped the air when she went with her gut. She trusted her gut over everything else, and that was where she needed to be anyway.
Great story. Definitely recommend.
