On a technical level, the screen shots which are supposed to support his claims are so fuzzy they are unreadable, and the manuscript formatted so that the images cover whole paragraphs of the text.
If I were writing a detective story about this book, I would guess that it was likely a successful course about ten years ago. When that ran its course, the author likely put it behind a membership site. This publication is probably his effort to squeeze a few last dollars from the project.
I got this book via a free promotional day, and I still feel like I overpaid. Do yourself a favor and avoid it...
Now for the good news. There is real value to be had from this book. The author describes several proven ways (using actual case histories) to promote your membership site. A chapter describing how to upgrade your subscribers from free to Paid was very useful.
The author describes how to pick a profitable topic, how to grow the site quickly, how to easily get joint venture partners, and how to use viral marketing.
Frankly, for $25 the reader is getting a steal. The "Paid Membership Website" business is at its infancy. The technology is now available to make real six figure incomes from owning this sort of paid content website. And this book covers all the basics...and then some.
Mr. Gough also mentions his own Membership Website for Membership Website owners. The price is low, and the content is useful. The author mentions his other resources, but not often enough to complain about.
As a side note. I have a book for sale on Amazon too. I had no idea that I could review my own book and give myself five stars. Oh well. This is a review of the book, and the book is a goldmine. I recently paid $1,500 for a set of DVDs on this very subject from another Guru, and this book covered most of what they did.
So on with this review.
I liked this book a lot. Looking at the copyright dates, the book was first published back in 2005, and revised in 2014. So I'm reading the new version, not the one that the old reviews used.
It's pretty clear to me from reading the book that the author has a deep understanding of what he is talking about. I think the book delivers on the title.
The book is well-written. It only has a few odd formatting errors that look strange (such as bullets centered in the page). But nothing that gets in the way of smooth reading.
The book content is comprehensive and in depth. I felt I would have a MUCH better chance of building a paid site because of the information and lessons in this book. It's rare to read a good book like this in the current deluge of low-priced, Internet–related Kindle books. Most of them are fluff. This one is definitely not.
For the record, I have no connection to this author whatsoever. This was not a free copy of the book traded for a positive review, for example. He lives halfway around the world in a different country, and we've never exchanged an email.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand how to create a modern membership site, and how to build them up into viable businesses using various forms of marketing, joint ventures, etc. I think the book was very well done.
