The tension comes not from their feelings of falling in love but from Gideon’s male pride. Louisa is portrayed as a strong person, one who likes to take charge and I liked this about her. She does not come across as a know it all nor does she manage everyone around her. She is astute and recognizes what she can and cannot control in her orbit. Gideon recognizes this about her and instead of marshalling her strengths, he tries to tamp them and this was frustrating. For some odd reason, the author does not allow Louisa to be more proactive in discovering Gideon’s secrets, Louisa did not always act like Louisa. This was the biggest flaw in this story.
However, the chemistry between the leads is superb and these two share a special affinity for each other and for their families. There are several tender moments they share and their loyalty to their clan is to be admired.
