The strategies Ron Silva describes are biblically based and proven by the success of The Springs (Silva's church) and the many, many new churches that were planted by men and women who follow the biblical guidelines. Combine God's leading and calling with this scriptural strategy and you'll end up with a recipe for a God-designed church that is changing lives and growing daily (see Acts 2!). That is success (as God defines it!) in any corner of this world and that is the path outlined in this book.
If you want to want to spend your money on the best book on the subject of strategizing a new church plant (or want some advice on how to grow your existing one), my advice is click on the "Add to Shopping Cart" button for "Starting High Definition Churches." Do it now...you need go no further!
Those who read this book will find themselves thoroughly enjoying the ride as they experience with Ron the exhilarating high points in "The Springs" journey. Church planters will also get an honest "gut check" from Ron's description of the low points along the route to getting a church underway.
As Ron himself writes about his experience (p. 86), "The highest thrills and the lowest frustrations will be your partners in the early days of a church start. Some days you will come home exhilarated by God's provision through people and circumstances, other days you will race down the hill of depression by the darkness of the tunnel you just entered."
The best thing about this book is that it is real! This is a highly practical book that will give you a working recipe for planting a new church that has proven successful. But I also like Ron's honesty and humility in admitting (p. 15), "There is no complete manual on how to start an HD church. They're being written even now through the experiences and journeys of new churches around the world."
Being a highly pragmatic person, I like it that Ron's recipe, while specific and detailed, leaves room for varied local and individual circumstances and more importantly, for the hand of God.
Speaking of practicality, the resources listed at the back of the book in the appendices are themselves alone worth the purchase price of the book. The books and the websites listed, as well as the resources in the appendices will prove very helpful to church "launchers" everywhere.
Do Ron and I agree on all points of theology? I would have to honestly say that we do not. But we do share a passion for reaching the lost for Jesus Christ, and a belief that the Purpose-Driven paradigm, which Ron so skillfully promotes and teaches, is as great paradigm for starting a church in the 21st century as it was in the 1st century.
One other thing Ron and I share, and that's a deep-seated belief that anyone who wants to plant a church ought to apply the best skills he can acquire to the work of the church, and then be content to wait for our gracious God to work His will. Ron's book will help you greatly with the skills.
As for the contentment? Well, listen to Ron himself speak on that point (p. 86), "Know the one who invited you to join Him and strapped you into His work of reaching a community for Christ. He who called you is faithful."

"Starting High Definition Churches" was a HUGE help. Six months after reading the book and three months into the launch we have benefited numerous times in our planning and decision making. Ron shares his personal experiences and insights from his church launch that will encourage, guide, and even warn the church launcher of the struggles to expect. He did a great job at preparing us for the experieces we have encountered.
You'll find principles for strategy, relevance, and courage that will aid in the success of a church launch. If you're serious about launching a church then learn from someone who has done it and is willing to share his successes and failures. I am so glad I read this book.
