Editorial Reviews

2008 debut album from the Delaware native who moved to Nashville several years ago and paid his dues parking cars to pay the bills and writing songs to hone his craft. The album features the hit single 'Stealing Cinderella,' which is one of ten songs he co-wrote on the eleven track album. Starting Now showcases Wicks' vocal talent and the versatility of his songwriting. Produced by Monty Powell and Dann Huff, the result is a compelling debut, a collection of songs that demonstrate a depth of artistry not usually found on a first album.

This is what great country is all about...great songs sung by a great singer! I had heard "Stealing Cinderella" and was impressed, so when I saw the full length CD I was curious enough to sample it. I am glad I did. Every song here is strong enough to be played on today's contemporary country radio. This is the kind of CD that is worth purchasing instead of just downloading a few songs. It is actually a great listen from beginning to end. If you're a country fan, do yourself a favor and buy this now! Sounds like this artist should be around for quite a while.

Starting Now is one of those rare albums that has every song stay with you throughout the day. The sound is pure and amazingly innovative and the content is from the heart. "Man of the House" had me in tears, "She's going to hurt somebody" had an incredible upbeat. The album is in my car, on my Ipod and on home system and it seems it is all I play and still never get tired of it. Every song a gem. Will reach out to everyone. Buy it and find out for yourself, then request your favorite on your local radio station. All are my favorites. Hope to hear more from this guy.

I bought this CD after hearing & seeing Chuck on TV. I liked Stealing Cinderella, but it is not my favorite of his. He has so many great songs. My Favorite is probably "If We Loved" & "What if You Stay." There are MANY great radio hits "Good Time Comin'On", "Starting Now" & "All I Ever Wanted."
HE sounds a little like Dierks, but really unique to Country. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

I don't really listen to much country music, but I bought Darius Rucker
here, and Amazon recommended this one so I tried it too...and its great! Don't know what else to say except that if you like modern sounding, non-twangy country music then you will like this one. Enjoy.

Prime Cuts: When You're Single, Stealing Cinderella, Man of the House

Wicks' debut CD reminds us why country music is so enthralling. While other genres are content to settle on the peripheral and abstract, country music dives right into the marrow of emotions via its engaging use of narrative plotlines and its jumping out of the speakers real life characters. Wicks' RCA Nashville record is a prime example. This Smyrna, DE native took chutzpah when he tackles themes like singleness, broken homes and ill-fated romances, but Wicks holds himself well when he shows through his intricate and heartfelt story songs that he comes across as an acutely wise observer of relationships. Vocally, Wicks has a fine gristly tenor that calls to mind Jason Michael Carroll and perhaps Brad Paisley without the superstar's witty inflexions. Truth be told, though Wicks sing well, he does not possess a distinct vocal to set him apart from the Michaels, Tomlinsons and Paisleys. So, the calling shots here are the songs.

For those who cannot get enough of those tasty treats for the heart, there are many of those big ballads that will cause Kleenex boxes to run out in record time. A future favorite will be "Man of the House," a moving tale of a ten year-old who had to wash dishes for his mom, wakes his sister p every morning, prepares breakfast simply because he is "the man of the house." With an ability that could pierce the hardest of hearts, this gorgeous ballad with its close attention paid to details, describes what goes on across single-parent homes all across the country. Just when you thought Wicks has hit the tier of emotionally driven songs, take a listen to current single "Stealing Cinderella.

So, I was trolling iTunes one day, checking out the newest country music releases, and I came across something called iTunes Country Essentials. So I clicked on it, and one of the songs was by this guy I'd never heard of named Chuck Wicks. And I liked it. So -- click -- I bought it. Then I thought I'd check out his album, and started listening to samples. Oh, that's a great song. Click. That one's nice, too. Click. So is that one. Click. And suddenly I'd gotten almost every song and had paid more than if I'd just bought the whole dang album to start with. Oh, well, not too bright. But the bottom line is, I love this guy's voice and the songs he sings. This is catchy, heartfelt, bop-your-head-and-tap-your-feet kind of country, along the lines of Rascal Flatts and Sugarland. OK, maybe not as brilliant as Sugarland, but real good stuff. So check Chuck out, but don't be dumb like me; save yourself money and time and give that index finger a rest.

This new singer was on the short lived reality show "Nashville" and the show documented him first getting his record deal etc. While "Stealing Cinderella" probably will be a popular wedding song for awhile, there is a variety of songs on the album... many better than his original hit... such as "all i ever wanted" (which sounds a little like a rascal flatts track), and "If we loved". Great first album!
