The 2 of them.are immediately attracted to each other. She does, however, not know that he is extremely rich...
Although.this book was propably not as good as some of the books in the Three Rivers Range series (5th generation cowboy was my favourite), I liked it a lot. I give it 4.5 ****
Missy has been burned and is struggling to make ends meet after being left with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt from her ex-husband. All her dreams have now been pushed aside to slowly work and pay off those debts. Try as she might, the only way to get rid of them is to pay them. As her dream to buy the horse ranch that she loves and has worked at for years and years disappears, Missy knows the next best thing is to continue working there as manager. When her dear friend, and owner of the ranch, decides to retire and sell, Missy is not ready for the new owner.
She's especially not ready for the new owner to be a fresh from the city, dressed all fancy with no clue about horses or a ranch. What follows their first meeting is some great humor, two great characters who are seeking for healing from their past and a swoony romance.
I really enjoyed both characters in this book. It's a novella so there's not lots of time to rehash their whole backstories but I thought the author did a great job giving us the right pieces which connected me as the reader to the MCs emotionally. I felt sorrow for their struggles and loss and loneliness. I laughed and was giddy at their flirtations and sweet friendship and I cheered right along when the guy swoops in and saves the day! It's great and I can't wait to read more by Liz Isaacson! I have a couple of her books waiting for me on my kindle. Woohoo!!!
I have to say also that I was so in love with the horse ranch aspect. I LOVE horses!!!! Do I own a horse? No. :-( Do I hear about horses constantly and the need to purchase one for each of my children? Yes!!! ;-) They have it all figured out...our backyard is fenced and the horses can fun around back there and we can ride them everywhere and take care of them and they can just eat our grass and we'll set up a water bowl for them. Hahaha! Love my kiddos! We've gone riding several times on some friend's horses so of course they are now experts on all things horses. But hey I was cheering them on in trying to convince my hubby to get a horse(definitely couldn't live in our backyard). My mom grew up on a dairy farm and would tell us about growing up she'd just go out to the pasture by her house, call her horse "Pet" over to the fence, give her an apple, hop on bare back and ride to her hearts content. Talk about some green jealousy monster coming out when I heard that and I didn't have my own horse. I love horses, if you can't tell. So this was a great read to enjoy a sweet, clean romance and lots of horse imaginings. <3333
Content: Clean with just some sweet kisses!
I received a copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)
Plot and Setting: 4.5 -- Plot is engaging. Has unique elements and no major holes, but a few shaky bits and/or a slight lack of focus. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline is clear and consistent. A short-but-sweet romance. Things go about as expected for the most part, and the romance speeds right along (though the timeline spreads it out over several months). Tucker's wealth feels a bit too easy, even though it sort of creates the main conflict. It's an enjoyable, easy read, and sometimes that's enough.
Characters: 4 -- Main characters are relatable, realistic, interesting, and dynamic. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. Definite strong points in the relationships between characters. Not a lot of space for character development in a short novella, but I did believe both Tucker and Missy as people, and saw some growth in them through the story. Lots of minor characters are mentioned, but few end up having depth or playing a significant role. I did enjoy their family members, and Gladys.
Mechanics and Writing: 4.6 -- Few, if any, typos, punctuation issues, or word errors. (<3/100pgs) Good use of POV. Generally skillful writing. Well-proofed, quite good writing. POV alternates between Missy and Tucker.
Redeeming Value: 4.6 -- Partially focused uplifting themes or lessons. Drugs, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified at all. No explicit sex scenes. Implied moral guidelines for behavior. Very clean, no more than kisses, and Tucker intentionally waits months to kiss her for the first time. They attend church together (though perhaps distract each other from the sermons). Themes of second chances, and not making money a wedge between them.
Personal Enjoyment: 4.3 -- I liked it a lot. Highly enjoyable and very entertaining. I’d enjoy reading it again.
