On to my review.
I have bought several brands of turmeric, just wanting to taste the differences between them. Of the ones I have tried, this one seems to be the most potent contender so far. Turmeric is supposed to have an almost musty aroma, and is somewhat bitter in taste. Color may vary by turmeric variety, so keep your pants on, it shouldn't be the sole characteristic you judge turmeric by. Not everyone knows there are several kinds. As soon as I got my turmeric home, I cracked open a fresh pack and gently inhaled; it smelled potent, as I expected. I poured it from its foil zip pouch into a storage container and added at least a tablespoon of pepper (fresh-cracked is best) and a couple teaspoons of ground cayenne pepper. (Get all spices non-irradiated for best health benefits). Mix well with a whisk, I added these spices because I use turmeric for health benefits (it has probably 600 or more that have been studied) and those particular spices help you reap the benefits of the turmeric (and other herbs, etc) by increasing absorption. Take your desired amount of this concoction along with some olive oil (or other healthy fat) and you will thank me later!Read more ›
Unlike most of us, I have inherited arthritis, and my joints started to disintegrate in my twenties. Since turmeric is known as one of nature's best anti-inflammatory agents...the Arthritis Foundation sez it stops free radicals in their tracks, reduces swelling, and halts cartilage destruction...I figured I'd give it a try. A 1/4 tsp per day is supposed to do the trick, so I planned to put it in my tea each morning.
But a pound of turmeric?? Tho' most of us wouldn't use that much in lifetime, I did the math and this was the most cost effective purchase, and I could share with friends & family.
Well, it turns out turmeric HAS a flavor, and a good one. This is the power of freshness...when
I opened the plastic-coated foil bag to find a golden powder with a friendly, earthy scent I smelled turmeric for the first time ever. And when I put a bit on the tip of my tongue it tingled, and I realized I was experiencing the legendary numbing quality it is famous for.
Fresh turmeric has a warm, earthy, umami quality, and I can see why chefs use it to add depth to their flavors; it would be a far superior flavor enhancer than MSG. I also understand why Indian cooks dry-fry their spices as a first step...the turmeric absolutely bloomed in hot tea, and a 1/4 teaspoon was too much per cup, more like per pot. It enhanced the natural grassiness of green tea, and the smoky mesquite honey I use, and even after adding cream the flavor and color were pleasant.Read more ›
Recipe by Dr Doug English to follow : GOLDEN PASTE
1/2 cup turmeric powder (125 mls)
1 cup water (250 mls), and 1 cup in reserve if needed
1/3 cup (70 mls) cold pressed Olive or Coconut oil
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper (one and a half)
Place turmeric and water in pan, stirring over gentle heat until you have a thick paste. This should take about 7 - 10 minutes and you will need to add additional water along the way. Add the pepper and oil at the end of cooking. Stir well (a whisk is ideal) and allow to cool. Store in sterilised glass jar and refrigerate. Will keep for up to four weeks, refrigerated - best used within two. Use for Golden Milk, Smoothies, stir into Yoghurt ... add to your dinner plate as a condiment. (Same recipe may also be used for animals)

-Very fine powder
-Price is great (I only use ¼ teaspoon a day. This 1lb should last a while. Way cheaper than buying it in pill form)
-Seems fresh to me ( I know others have disagreed and I will say… I’m not a turmeric expert.. but it smelled right and looked right from what I know)
I purchased this turmeric to take once a day for health. Everything I have been reading always quotes Turmeric as having excellent anti-inflammatory properties. I mix about ¼ teaspoon into some water w/lemon daily. At this point I have been using it for 2 months and I feel like my body has responded well to it. I was having some knee pain and it has lessened overtime. Is it the turmeric? I do not have any real hard evidence expect my own personal experience…. And I can care less about this company or their claims. For me it’s working right now and I will continue to use and update periodically. I included some pictures to give an idea of what it looked like when I first opened it. I hope this helps you make your decision.
