WOW, I cannot believe that finally, I find myself wanting to write a good book review because the books not only deserve it but actually earned it, as well. I don't say that lightly either because I don't usually waste what little extra time I have on something unless it's worth it, and these books were worth every bit of my time. I am a voracious reader of all genres, from many different authors, and have been reading for over 40 years now, so I can say with some authority that I know a good story when I read one. I also know when an author has an amazing talent, when I come across one. This is one of those stories, and one of those authors. I learned so much while reading these books. The reader will be able to see, from the beginning just how much well rounded research went into these books. Language, cooking, religion, aviation, and electricity are just a few of the main topics that the author speaks about but I don't want to go into too much more on them for fear of spoiling it for everyone else. Which is something I want to talk about for just a second. I don't usually go off on rants, and I try to keep most things clean and classy but after reading some of the reviews, I feel the need to speak up. Just because you, as a reader may feel that the author has somehow personally jilted you because he somehow left the book, as a so called 'cliffhanger', doesn't give you the right to ruin the book for everyone else Sir! That's why they call it a 'book series', instead of two stand alone books. Also, if everyone remembers correctly, back in the old days when they showed movies at the old movie theaters, they would end them always with the audience wanting to come back next week for more. That's just smart business folks!Read more ›

I bought the 2 boo-s in the series as a bundle. First, the bad news: THESE BOOKS ARE CLIFF-HANGERS!!!!!! The story is that both New York and Norfolk/Virginia beach were destroyed by nuclear bombs from some unknown source. Two brothers try to rescue their sister Cynthia from New York, plus her husband and 3 month old baby, Melissa. The baby is the only one found alive. One brother, Everon works for a major power company as a pilot and his brother Franklin is a very conflicted minister. The first book ends in a cliff-hanger, and the second book State of Reason, despite being VERY long (almost 150 chapters) also ends in a cliff-hanger! AAAAGGGGHHH! The 3rd book in the series is "coming soon" and I will get it if the price is reasonable....$0.99 or free....because they are "this" close to figuring out who/what is behind the attacks. I can't tell you how much I hate, detest and despise cliffhangers AND the authors who write them. It's just a ploy to sell more books, and that is despicable. Either wrap up the story as a stand-alone and feature other characters in subsequent books, or WARN potential readers that these are cliff-hangers to start with, so we won't waste our time. Rant over....stepping off the soapbox.
