This toy is a complete failure. For this price one could have an actual R/C fire truck, not just a "walkie talkie style" controller that moves the fire truck forward or backwards. I should clarify, the fire truck doesn't move in straight line or anything proximal to a straight line. Going forward it veers to the right and going backwards it veers to the left but at a different turning radius. So as soon as the vehicle gets to any obstruction you have to walk over and put it in the center of the room. There's a switch on the bottom to change the volume from loud to very loud but it doesn't work. Your only choices are very loud and off. The music is obnoxious and, amazingly there are no fire truck sounds.

The Rush and Rescue Fire Ladder truck is a good idea with a rather bad design. The remote is simple to use: the truck moves only forward or backward, which is easy for a young child to do. However, the front wheels are not locked in place and the truck wants to turn in big circles. It is nearly impossible, even for an adult, to make the truck travel in a straight line for more than a few inches. It does have some cool sound effects though, and my grandson loves the siren. He quickly got bored with the remote part and just plays with the truck itself. He can make the siren go by pushing a button on the truck itself and doesn't need the remote for that. He prefers to just push the truck around with his hand.

For some odd reason, the truck comes equipped with 3AA batteries for the vehicle, but doesn't not include the 3AAA batteries that are needed for the remote control, so be aware of that and purchase them before you give it to a child.

Toystate's Road Rippers R/C Rush and Rescue: Fire Ladder Truck is sort of a so-so toy. It has its pluses, it is durable, and it is loud, which are two good qualities, but it has short, repeating sound that is sure to agitate even the most patient parent after 20 minutes. Additionally, some of the stickers that control the functions (sounds, buzzers and bells, and wheels) started coming off after a few uses. It will only turn one way, to the right, and only turn that way if you are using the remote control to make it go backwards. It will easily run over a slick wooden floor or carpet, but after 15-18 feet, the vehicle is out of range of the remote, and this was with new alkaline batteries.

This is a toy that would get boring for a child over three, and even those under three might not enjoy it for very long.

Personally, I would only give it to a child whose parents I wanted to annoy.

I had issues with the batteries from the beginning. It comes with batteries for the truck, but not the remote - makes no sense. But okay, I load the batteries into the remote. Nothing. I take the batteries out of the truck and replace them with Duracel batteries. Nothing. I take apart the remote again and reseat the batteries (and for the life of me I can't see anything wrong with the initial seating) and then it started to work. The remote can make the truck move forward and backward - no turning ability. The wheels are not locked straight however, and it therefore it moves in a circle, but not a consistent circle. The remote works from a distance of approximately 10 feet. It is difficult to maneuver in a home - too much circle and no control. While this might not frustrate some, it does me.

Rating downgraded because of the batteries and the movement of the vehicle. It would also be nice if the unit did something else. With today's chipsets, there could have been more for very little cost.

Received this today for my son's birthday. It seems to be very well made. Much more sturdy than the last two remote control vehicles that we had. Packaging was fairly simple to remove and easy to put back in the box for wrapping after we did install the batteries. It has two volume levels which is nice.

As a side note, I think it's pretty stupid that the manufacturer includes batteries for the truck but not the remote. You still have to put in 3 AAA batteries to use the demo mode.

My dogs get excited when they hear sirens so I thought I'd buy something they can chase around the kitchen. This was inexpensive since I didn't know if they would hurt it if they got a hold of it. As it turns out they just chase it around and bark at it. They love the movement, the flashing lights and the siren. We play with it in the morning and after dinner. It's not a typical dog toy but they have plenty of those. Very cute for the money.

First off, let me say that this toy is loud, very loud. Thank goodness there is an option to turn off the sound. Second, this fire truck can only be steered forward and backwards - the control has no ability to make it go to the left or right which makes it limiting. Third, it comes with the 3 AA batteries needed for the truck but not included are the 3 AAA batteries that are needed for the control.

But it is still a firetruck that kids can control by remote, so despite its loudness and limitations, they still like it.

My 1 1/2 year old son is obsessed with anything with a siren but this just isn't doing it for him. He's not quite figuring out how to use the remote control and since it only goes front and back he gets frustrated with it easily. On the other hand, he loves pushing the siren button on the truck itself. He'll use it occasionally but it seems to have already lost his interest after a couple weeks.
