Editorial Reviews

To Armin van Buuren, music is a natural state of mind. The Dutch DJ and producer lives, breaths and sleeps on the wonders of the 4-to-4 beat and has been at it for more than 15 years. Nine of those years have involved the annual release of his A State of Trance compilation. A highlight for the trance-minded and dance addicts, now reaching for its 2012 edition. This is A State of Trance 2012, mixed by Armin van Buuren.
2012 is a year much discussed, both in and outside the dance scene. It's the year in which the dance society celebrates the 550th episode and therefore 11th birthday of A State of Trance, Armin's beloved radio show. With 7 shows planned for March, it's another climax in the career of the Dutchman. 18 million listeners tune in every week, to enjoy Armin's selection of the latest in trance and progressive, as well as a blend of exclusive tracks and remixes. With each compilation representing a new year in trance on a special 2 disc mix, Armin brings his fans the A State of Trance compilation. A series going strong since 2004, winning several IDMA awards for 'Best Full Length DJ Mix'
For 2012, Armin has found the perfect balance and track selection. From tracks produced especially for the ASOT series to new found gems from the upcoming league of dance producers. After weeks of preparation, A State of Trance 2012 is a fact !

Pay no attention to the man behind the 3-star review. I mean really! Are we listening to the same CD?

So many great tunes.

Disc 1: The new Roger Shah/Sunlounger tune Try to Be Love is one of my favorites. Always love Roger Shah and Sunlounger and this song continues his great Sunlounger Series.

In your arms by Andy Moor features the smooth, creamy vocals of Jessica Sweetman-a hands in the air tune for sure.

Don't miss "Always Loved, Never Forgotten" by Tenishia and Suddenylt Summer by AVB. Classic Trance.

Disc 2: This WHOLE CD is EPIC. Starts off with Ashley Wallbridge (Look for his new CD-it's amazing too!) and proceeds to steal your mind for the next 60+ minutes.

0rgan Nilsen's Amsterdam, the dance floor favorite "Kinetic" by Abstract Vision & Elite Electronic and the Trance Anthem "Concrete Angel"-Gareth Emery remixed by John O'Callaghan will simply steal your consciousness.

I too was fortunate enough to attend Beyond Wonderland in March. What an amazing event. Music lovers from all over the world experiencing a truly one-of-a-kind and once-in-a-lifetime event. Thank You AVB, Aly & Fila, John O'Callaghan, Sied van Riel, Arty, ATB, and Gareth Emery. All of your music has changed my life. Gotten me out of my "comfort zone", taught me to let go on the dance floor, and opened my mind to a world I didn't even know existed.

Get this CD-Go see these people live, your life will never be the same.

After reading the previous review i was kind of skeptical, however holy shiz I am listening to CD 2 right now and it is unbelievable. I loved the 2011 cds, however in my opinion this one is better. So much emotion and so many tracks i had never heard of all on this cd. Go Armin! BTW loved you at Beyond Wonderland last weekend in LA.

A State of Trance 2012 by Armin Van Buuren is a two cd set of 32 songs. The first disc set is titled On The Beach and has fifteen songs ranging from meaningful songs such as Try To Be Love by Sunlounger & Zara Taylor (Roger Shah Naughty Love Mix)and the jovial Suddenly Summer by Armin Van Buuren feat. Ana Criado. The second disc titled in the club has 17 songs ranging from Armin Van Buuren’s collaboration with Gaia and 550 Senta (Aether Mix) by Andrew Rayel. A good selection for those looking for a hybrid of playful and worthwhile trance songs.

Despite other negative reviews you will see, I feel this is Armin's overall best in a long time! I normally am not the biggest fan of the 'On the Beach' CD, but this one is probably his best to date. It is loaded with too many vocal Trance tracks, but even those are listenable & good tracks. I was expecting 2012 to suck from all the negative reviews, but it definitely does not. CD2 is where you will find the good stuff! Similar sounding tracks, yes, but we are talking about Trance! The CD flows from one track to the next so perfectly, and it just keeps getting better from track to track. Also, from what I had read about lots of vocal tracks, CD2 only has two, and they don't come until near the end of the set. I've listened to CD2 a ton this past month!

I have every State of Trance since 2004, and while I'm not sure this is the best, I'd definitely say it's in the top three or four for sure. I always like to listen to mix-sets several times before making up my mind on how I feel about it and before I review it here.

I wanted to review ASOT 2012 to show some support for an awesome set by Armin, and I hope he can get back the #1 ranking on DJ Mag Poll. It makes me wanna puke that a house DJ has number one. Thanks, Armin, and I'll be ready for ASOT 2013!

UPDATE: I cannot stop listening to CD2 (In the Club)! It may be up there with the greatest single disc of Trance I have ever heard. George Acosta's Miami CD2, Ferry Corsten Once Upon a Night (Vol. 1) CD2, The Thrillseekers Nightmusic Vol 3 (CD1), and most of Christopher Lawrence's CDs come to mind as absolute treasures. The second CD on ASOT 2012 is right up there. The final track on it is the only slightly weak track, but this CD is so amazing! I just had to share more of my thoughts.

I am a Baby Boomer. Born in 1955. Most of my kind think that music died with Elvis, Beatles, and Buddy Holly. I like to listen to the newst beats. The old stuff gets, well, old. Horrible recording equipment. Sound is terrible. Now with a up-graded music system, one can truly appreciate the advances of recording techonology. While Elvis sounds the same. Tinny.

I have every SOT album since 2004, this 2012 is my favorite to date.

It's been the only one so far that after going through it twice, still I don't feel the need to skip around.

Lots of great tracks, though more vocal tracks would be nice.

If your reading this review then you are prob alread a Armin fan. So just complete your collection because this is a good album to get started. I like Amazon downloads in how they allow you to get the mixed album instead of the individual unmixed tracks and then the long mixed album with no cuts (Itunes).

really enjoying it. a couple really really good tracks. i love how most of armin van buren's stuff comes in multi discs. u get alot of music for a very acceptable price. i appreciate the discs as opposed to mp4's simply because i like the tangibility, a hardcopy disc, so if ur ipod and comp crashes its always here, plus the album artwork and stuff is kinda cool to have
