Beats my roomba! Updated to explain my reduction of stars & my disappointment with customer service
Two updates:1. For everyone having a problem trying to figure out how to get to the map and other features, don’t scroll down or click settings in the app. Instead, click the actual image of the yeedi. It took me forever to figure out how to get find those screens in the app, so I feel your pain.2. Why I’ve reduced my rating: The robot still works fine as far as sucking up dirt, but now I have no control over it at all. I started getting a random error message a few nights ago that made me unable to view the logs. After uninstalling and reinstalling the app to try and fix the error, it asked me to log back in with a password, but my password stopped working. I am 99.9% sure my password is correct, but I requested a password reset anyway. A reset code was supposed to be send by email, but it never came.Customer service told me to reset the robot, which obliterates the map it spent a week creating and is frustrating, but I obliged. Now it says I already have an account. Since I can’t delete my old account, unless I register a new email address, which I really don’t want to do, I still can’t sign in.——-Original review, which I’d stand by if I could get into the app AND if the data acquisition error disappears:I’ve owned many Roomas and a few scoobas. Even with baby proofing the house like I would for an 18 month old child, they all had an uncanny ability to wait until I left the house before burrowing under the entertainment center and getting wrapped around cords, becoming totally paralyzed by the edge of a throw rug, getting stuck under the edge of a chair, or wandering into the bathroom, closing the door, and spending the next 2 hours cleaning the same 50 square feet until the batteries were completely drained. To be fair, they weren’t the latest models, but when you spend hundreds on a vacuum, you don’t really want to upgrade every year. When I was up to 3 roombas and a scooba and none could hold a charge for longer than than 30 minutes, I decided it was time to get another. I was roomba shopping when I found my yeedi. When I saw that she emptied her own dust bin and had an integrated mop, I was sold. For a fraction of the price of my roombas, my yeedi (named Cinderella, but don’t let that fool you. She’s really my favorite child and definitely the most obedient) can do everything my roomba did, only better. Cinderella tackles the area rugs confidently, throwing herself over the edges and onto the rug as though they were…well…area rugs and not chasms of doom. She even increases suction automatically when she detects carpet! She respects my boundaries (set up in the app), and she knows she’s too loud to operate when I’m watching tv, so she obediently waits to run until I’m asleep. Well, she didn’t intuit that, I set up her run time in the app too, so when I have guests who may not be as sound a sleeper as I am, I just have her work the day shift instead.I’m told that when she’s tired mid-run, she goes back to her charging base, juices up, then picks up where she left off. But she’s been able to complete her chores on a single charge, so I haven’t tested that feature. I have only found her stuck on something once, when a kid left sweatpants on the floor in the laundry room and the ties were tangled in her brush. Thankfully, I can tell her to avoid specific rooms or to clean them in a certain order, so if we’re slow about picking things up in the laundry room, I can have her do it last or not at all. Those cords that stymied my roomba don’t seem to be a problem for Cinderella. She’s better at backing out of bad situations—be they cords or the legs of a dining room chair—and getting herself unstuck. She also cleans in very orderly lines, unlike my comparably-priced roombas that just frenetically wandered Willy-nilly hoping dirt was in its path. The pros are many, but there are some downsides: -The main con is the mopping feature. I got rid of the scooba too soon and, in retrospect, I should have at least considered just buying an upgraded model or a new battery. I have only used Cinderella’s mopping feature once in 4 months, because it’s just not very good. It doesn’t scrub or suck up dirty water like the scooba does; yeedi only does the equivalent of spritzing water on the floor and wiping it up with a light swipe of a dish towel. And it can’t multitask. The scooba vacuumed and mopped at the same time. And it did it very well when the battery held up. The yeedi can only do one or the other, and only one of them well. Once you attach the mop pad, it recognizes that it’s supposed to dump water and that’s all it will do. Cinderella shines at vacuuming, but it needs a lesson on how to mop a floor. -As I’ve already mentioned, the yeedi empties its dustbin into a bag attached at the station. That’s a pro, but having to buy proprietary bags will be annoying. I wish it emptied into a larger reusable bin that I just had to dump once a month or so. -With open floor plans like mine, you can’t manually subdivide an area and label it as a room. You can start the yeedi from the app and have it clean a specific room, but for me, it sees my living room, kitchen, dining room and office as one large room. It sees my laundry room, bathroom, and sunroom as different rooms because there are doors, but everything else is lumped together. Look at my photos to see what I mean. -It can only store one map at a time, so if I want the most efficient (mapped) cleaning of my second floor, I’ll need to get another unit. The map images attached show the area cleaning before it was done mapping, the finished map, and the area cleaned once it had mapped the space.I haven’t had it long enough to know if the batteries will refuse to hold a charge in a year (my biggest complaint with the iRobot brands). But at this price, I won’t be as annoyed if I have to replace it or buy a new battery. And finally, I attached really large googly eyes to Cinderella. I definitely recommend it! She has personality now! 😂

This product came with a broken bin latch but I reached out to the manufacturer and they sent me a new latch very quickly and at no charge. In the meantime, I taped down the lid and put the vacuum to the test. I let it underneath my bed where I hadn't thoroughly cleaned since I moved in a few years ago. I didn't catch that this vacuum is only compatible with a 2.4GHz wifi router and didn't honestly know that mine is currently 5GHz so I haven't been able to put scheduling or the room mapping to the test.

All of that said, the vacuum cleans my main level in around 1 hour. The suction increases as it goes over my woven hemp rug and is able to grab threads laying on top of it. It found three pennies somewhere and left them randomly in the middle of my floor. The mop function is worth going this route! It is as good as if I use a Norwex mop. Unfortunately, it did try to mop my rug, just damp on top, and without the mapping feature, it got itself trapped in a corner for a while. It would sometimes spend extra time in a few spots but it never put down too much water and would dry about 6 passes later.

If you are worried about uneven floors, don't. I have a tiled bathroom and cork kitchen that are at least a half-inch higher than the other wood floors and this vacuum made it up and down with only a little more noise as it geared up for it. Additionally, it was able to cross where my rug is folded over on the ends and even handled the corners most of the time.

The manufacturer responded to me within hours about the latch. I hate to send so many things back over a small part and they sent a new one within a few days (some receiving glitches but overall timely), and it was a simple swap to fix the robot.

Back to mopping. LOVE! The water bin can be completely removed and it had more than enough water to mop my 800 sqft home. I can walk around the floor without picking up grit. I can't seem to disconnect the mopping pad tray from the water tank but I'm just running it without the water tank right now.

A couple of things to note. It did get itself irrecoverably tangled in a small wire under a cabinet (the robot fit under spaces I wasn't prepared for it to fit, which is a great bonus). It tangles in small lighting cables so those really need to be pinned up. I also pulled all my curtains up before running as I have slightly pooling curtains. It does hit light objects repeatedly, so I have a collapsable plant stand that I wouldn't trust it with, but it's done well with plants in baskets and not pushing them around much. Verticle blinds left extended but open were left in a bit of a mess but it handles them grouped to one side well.

As I mentioned before, it somehow found 3 pennies in the first pass and it picked them up and carried them to the middle of the room before dropping them, so there's not enough suction for that but it clears away hair well (initial vacuuming required hair removal after but not the next two times). It does appear to be vacuuming and mopping and it clearly recognizes that the mop pad is in and demands having it removed before it will charge. Even without being connected through the app (can't be automated without the app) it will time the cleaning and send messages if the vacuum is stuck or needs the water basin removed and cleaned.

I think this vacuum will work very well for me. It was also very easy to set up...apart from the app issue which I hope I can easily resolve in the coming weeks. I tried to catch a video of the vacuum over the rug as it is louder on higher pile surfaces but most of my floors are flat. Please enjoy the video of it mopping. It had confusion in this corner for some reason that time, it took 20 minutes longer to mop and seemed to be confused in corners it couldn't fully access. This shows a bit of the shine the mopping leaves behind though. I also showed a photo of the broken bin latch which I mentioned above. I think the video's sound is pretty accurate to the real sound of the vacuum on flat surfaces. It sounds much louder on the rug but not as loud as an upright typically is.

After my basic, non-smart robo vacuum died, I wanted to spend a little more and get some better features, like self-emptying and mapping. I went to external review websites, read reviews, debated options, etc. The yeedi seemed like the perfect fit, but it has been disappointing. This is a long review but I want to be thorough and informative, so bear with me.
Does it vacuum? Yes, better than not vacuuming, but not great. It misses about 20% of the dog hair and debris (see photo), and more often than not, fails to go self-empty when it's full mid-cycle, resulting in clumps of dog hair left in its path. It also gets outsmarted by a single chair leg and has more than once attempted to vacuum it's own charging station.
Does it self empty? Sometimes, if it finds it way back to the station. More likely, it will get stuck somewhere and die, so you have to play Find the Dead Vacuum and carry it back to the charger, and either empty it yourself or wait for it to charge enough to manually run the self-empty feature.
And the mapping feature? Pfft. I don't have an open concept floorplan but the vacuum disagrees. Some of our doorways between the rooms are larger than a standard 36" so the vacuum thinks it's all one room. It's only been able to differentiate one bedroom and 2 bathrooms in a 3bd/3bath house so far. The entire rest is one big room on the map. So much for setting it to mop only in my kitchen and not on the wood elsewhere. Also, "fully customizable" map just means that you can set boundaries in perfect rectangles anywhere, and name it, nothing else.
The noise while vacuuming is relatively quiet and not a problem. The noise while self-emptying is quite loud, probably on par with an old school grandma vacuum cleaner. It's not a big deal because as stated, it rarely self-empties. It also has an unnecessary narrator that is louder than I'd like, even when set at the lowest volume. She announces things like "Robot Off the Floor" when you have to rescue the vacuum from precarious situations like bumping into a chair leg.
The icing on the cake is watching this thing attempt to re-dock itself on the charger. It will back up, try, back up, reposition, try again, back up, turn around, try again, back up, do the hokey pokey, etc. Repeat until you get absolutely infuriated and pick the thing up to return it to the charger while it squawks at you "Robot Off the Floor" to show its gratitude.
All in all, it's not worth the money and frustration for the extra features. It vacuums so I don't have to, and that's about it. I'll probably go back to Eufy (the brand of my original robovac) or try Shark next time, but there's no way I'd buy another Yeedi.
UPDATE May 2022 - I edited my rating from 2 stars down to 1. I was trying to be positive with the original 2 stars, but my frustration with this vacuum has won. I have boundaries setup so I don't have to worry about the state of my children's room when they leave for school in the morning because the vacuum is set to run while we're gone. It has started randomly ignoring the boundaries and I find it at the end of the day, wound up in a charger cord or stuck in a pile of dirty laundry. If the vacuum dies, the app doesn't work, so you can't find the device or see where it's been. Why can't I access the app at all if the vacuum is dead? Also, as some others have mentioned, when the vacuum actually does manage to find the charging base and attempts to self-empty, it can't handle the dog hair. It all clumps in the opening and stays there, so you have to manually empty anyway. I hate this thing but I hate vacuuming more, so I keep using it, muttering obscenities every time.
UPDATE 2 April 2023 - I finally gave up and threw the whole vacuum away. About two months ago, we started finding the vacuum dead next to its charger a couple times a week. According to the app, it would immediately "get stuck" on nothing and run its battery in place until it died. After it started happening every single morning (it's scheduled to run weekdays while we're at work and school), I did an experiment. I made sure it was fully charged, and video-recorded what happened when it started to run. If anyone is interested in watching a two minute video of a robot vacuum turning in a circle, pausing, then turning in a circle some more, I'm happy to share.
TLDR: The best thing I can say about this vacuum is how good it felt to throw it in the garbage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastico
Reviewed in Italy on March 16, 2022

Consigliato!

5.0 out of 5 stars Un retour d'expérience après 12 mois d'utilisation.

Conclusion : excellent achat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Teil
