I am not making this up either, one of the equations in this book is sigma = sqrt(sigma^2) ?!?!?!? I'm glad I have this book to teach me that.....
If you do not need this book for a course, then stay away from it at all costs!!!!!
The key equations are not highlighted in an easy to spot/identify manner
Homework problems at the end of the chapters and basically the same question asked over and over again with different numbers - you don't get experience by solving the problem another way, or when you are given a different parameter.
If you have a class that requires this text, drop it. If need be, change majors, or even schools. It may well be that the authors are fine mathematicians, but writers and instructors they are not. I'm eternally grateful to my instructor for the Commentaries she has prepared for each chapter; without them I would have learned absolutely nothing. Instead of returning this book for credit, I plan to put it to good use, improving my marksmanship, and I find that such objects burn more efficiently if first ventilated with a high-powered assault rifle.
