Staub new 1.5 quart petite French oven boasts the benefits of a full-size cocotte in a compact size. Get fluffy rice, tender grains and creamy oatmeal thanks to Staub signature new lid. Staub latest innovation, the chistera drop-structure lid, has solved the challenge of curved lids-they limit moisture to sides-by ensuring continuous condensation throughout. Unlike countertop rice cookers, Staub petite French oven can be transported from the stovetop to the table. No need for serving bowls; these charming cocottes take care of both cooking and Plating. Rice has never been so easy to make.

Shape-wise I loved this little pot (it looks perfect for rice), but it's 1.5 quart, so I figured it would never work.
To my profound surprise and amazement, It does! It does!
I made a batch of rice pudding. After an hour of cooking (part with the lid on and then without), the rice wasn't even close to the top. I thought it strange that it didn't bubble over when I used a smaller pot, but that it did in the larger souffle dish. I thought perhaps it hadn't cooked properly, but it was perfect. All I can surmise is that the bumps on the lid allow condensation to form, causing the rice to absorb more of the liquid than usual.
It's a lovely pot, holds more than you think and is a perfectly charming. Did I mention that it's easy to clean too? I soaked it in the sink and all the crusty bits simply slipped off. Were everything so easy to clean.
Total five stars!
Well that is all now in the past. I have looked at many Japanese ceramic rice pots that looked appealing, but I have cats and figure one of them will knock the ceramic pot off the shelf and that would be it. I took much time to review my options and ran into the Staub Petite French Oven with all the swash shaped pieces on the inner lid that causes the moisture to rain down on the rice as it is cooking.
To be honest it did take me a couple pots of rice to get things correct. My stove has 4 burners...two at 5K btu, one at 10K btu and the last one at 14K btu. I found that if I use the 10K btu burner turned to low I would get the correct results when following the instructions on the rice package. Once I got use to using this pot with my stove I have had perfect rice everytime afterwards. It is always light and fluffy, never mushy.
I cook mostly Basmati and Jasmine (Aromatic) rice. but have also cooked long grain rice and very short grain 'sushi' rice with excellent results. I am extremely happy with this pot.
