Totally loved this story. It was nice to revisit Paige and Ryan in this story about their daughter Penelope. Once again, they give us sweet, sexy and safe!
I love both Ivan and Penelope.
Ivan was dark. He started his life in an orphanage and soon was living on the streets of Russia. He wasn't proud of what he had done because deep down, he longed for what he never had his whole life - love, family, stability. He was swoon worthy. No mention of a sexual past at all.
I adored Penelope. She was young (18) but she was soft and kind. She was just what Ivan needed. I thought she was a great heroine. She could read Ivan and treated him with such love and compassion. They were perfect together.
-no ow/om drama whatsoever
-steamy (but not until later in the book)
-Ivan attempted to push her away but it lasted about a day
-no violence of any kind
-good epilogue. I am always thrilled with Alexa Riley's epilogues but this one was a little on the vague side. Not in the way of the other characters because that was understandable. I mean about their children. Not many details are given. The epilogue was good but could have been more
I was completely thrown when I read this was Captain and Paige's daughter! Penelope and her twin, Pandora, have had guards on them for years and it's time for a new one for Penelope. Enter Ivan and his sweet talking Russian accent. These two were lost from the first second their eyes met.
I can't give away too much, just know you need this story if you've loved any past books. This is part of a series but could be read as a standalone but to get the back story on the parents I would suggest you start with the first book.
***ARC received for an honest review only!! I had already preordered the book before ARC offered.***
Penny is only 18, but her heart knows what it wants. It wants Ivan.
Ivan is supposed to guard Penny with his life. What Penny doesn’t know is that he would die for her.
The insta-love between Penny & Ivan makes me melt. Insta-love is a subject that Alexa Riley has mastered. Not only does this dynamic writing duo know how to quickly draw this reader in, but they keep me on the edge of my seat, breathless with anticipation on the journey the characters take to their HEA.
This is a novella with insta-love and is book one in the series. The heroine is a virgin. The hero is her bodyguard and is not a virgin. The 'friend's young daughter' thing mentioned in the blurb should have deterred me because I find May/December romance to be...well, let's just say I'm not a fan. Ivan, of the indeterminable age, grew up in the Russian mob. He was able to get out because of some snitching and ended up working for twins Penelope and Pandora Justice's parents.
After eighteen year-old Penelope sees her new bodyguard, Ivan, for the first time she knows she can save him. From what I'm not sure but that's not important right now. Actually it never becomes important. Once Ivan sees the young sweet thing that is Penelope he knows he can protect her. Protect her from what I have no idea but that's not important right now.
What's important is the immediate attraction that quickly develops into love. Too bad so sad for me that I didn't really develop any kind of like for either character. I actually thought the relationship between the twins was much better than the one between the hero and heroine.
The romance didn't make sense because the bodyguard character moved too fast. What friend would accept a mature man messing with their young impressionable daughter so easily and quickly?
There's some attempt at staying away from each other but that lasted a whole day and then it's off to the races. Love and sex are not far off. I think I'll skip book two.
Happy reading folks!

Only gripe I have is that I didn't really connect with either character enough to find them memorable. Yes they were adorable together and AR still writes crazy OTT hot smexy times but I don't see myself pulling this one out to re-read any time soon.
Will say that AR doesn't disappoint with the swoon-worthy Hero. He might be silent and brooding 95 percent of the time, but when he does say something, it's the best sweetness :)
Every time we connect there is love - love of our bodies, love of our spirits, love of our souls.
Ivan grew up an orphan and joined the Russian mafia out to survive and Penelope is the sweet, mothering twin. They first meet when Ivan is assigned to protect Penelope and they fall instantly in love! I thought the story was much to short, but it was still worth reading.
It looks like Pandora, the feisty twin, and Henry, who is Oz and Mallory's son. I can't wait to read those stories!!!
