Sterling on the other hand, the owner of The Shepherd, is as close to a saint as I've ever read on paper. A Dom at heart, something inside Adrian speaks to him, and Sterling decides to pursue that relationship. He understands that Adrian does not need the pain of domination, he needs the care, I'm a dominant. Adrian need somebody to take care of him, and look after him, and Sterling so badly wants to be that man.
When an unexpected turn of events forces the two of them together, their relationship really develops, and makes each of them the better man for it.
All in all, Stay is another great addition to this series of books from Piper Scott. Not only is she skillful with the way she crossed her characters, and the stories that she tells, she has an understanding of what BDSM is at its heart and core. She sees the way people can benefit from engaging in this lifestyle, and these kinds of relationships and that's what she puts out for everybody to read. It's not always handcuffs and spanking on a stage. There are other ways that a Dom can offer his submissive, the things that he needs. And Sterling, being the Dom that he is understands that the relationship Adrian needs is far from traditional. I really enjoyed this book, and I especially enjoyed the dynamic between Sterling and Adrian. I'd highly suggest everybody pick this book up now.
This is a BDSM book, and there's one scene that had me cringing a little, even though I don't have the body parts that were being abused. But THEY got off on it, so it's all good. As always, I gained new insights through Piper's writing, like this: "Being in control wasn’t only about seeing power taken away from a lover—it was about guiding a body otherwise helpless through orgasm."
For those who hated Adrian and the part he played in Beg, I think you'll come around when you see the guilt and torture he's been living through, and the reasons behind his actions. I just wanted to give the poor guy a BIG HUG.
SO EXCITED for the next book in this series!!!
Adrian show up in the previous story, Obey. And frankly, he was an ass. He treated Lucian so abominably. He was bitter and cruel and I hated him. So, I was intrigued to see how the author was going to remake him into a lovable character. Who would be strong enough to take on all of Adrian’s emotional baggage. As you read, you start to understand who Adrian really is. You see the reasons behind the external persona that he shows to the world. And at times it breaks your heart.
Sterling is the owner of The Shepherd and a Dom of a different stroke. Many other masters use pain, humiliation and other mean of control. But Sterling is a ‘kill them with kindness’ type of Dom. That is the kind of domination that he feels Adrian needs. And if he must give up his control and submit, so be it. In the long run it will give him what he wants, Adrian.
As with the first two books, this one is well written. The characters and the emotional impact of the story keeps you reading. I’m hoping that Gabriel gets the next story. And I’m hoping that more characters are added to this world. Because I’m selfish and want more stories set in this world.
