It has everything you're looking for; the "who-done-it" of course, but what was so terribly engaging is that this stay at home Dad, who is proud of what he does, always put his family first and truly loves that he's the homemaker and his wife is the breadwinner. Carly is a delight, and Julienne kicks major butt for her husband if need be.
The locale and people involved were described incredibly well, so that you could almost see them in your mind's eye, which truly helps a storyline. I didn't guess "who-done-it," and it ended up being a bit of a surprise for me, which I liked, too. The best part about Deuce, our stay at homer, is that some of his thoughts and actions were truly laugh out loud funny, and I'm sure my neighbors wondered what I was laughing at as I sat outside on the porch reading.
Mr. Allen, I can't wait for the next installment, so please write faster! You have, in my opinion, a truly winning series going on, and I can't wait to read more about Julienne, Carly, the WORMS and how we're coming along on Baby Number Two. Your descriptions of everyone involved were spot-on, and to me that's a major part of what makes a book good or bad. If I can't "see" the person, or visualize the locale it's taking place in, I can't get into the story. You took the time to make those descriptions happen, and some of the folks just jumped off the pages, so that was a large part of my emjoyment. Odell's hair...well, let's just say I'm still laughing at that and that's part of what made your debut so enjoyable.
Keep it up; I'm now a fan!!
I cannot wait for the second book which comes out this fall. And hopefully many more to come in the near future.
