This book disappointed me, and I feel bad saying that, because I wanted to love it. But that's what disappointment is, so I'll get over it. Let me explain.

Hailey is eighteen, a freshman in college, and a superstar. As she explains it, she started as a Gerber baby, then, "I was on the soap until I was five. Then I played Annie in yet another Broadway revival of the show before playing Cosette. And then TV sitcoms and films. And my singing continued as I acted. The tours, the songwriting... It goes on and on." Also, "I had won a few Grammys and Emmy awards by the time I was fourteen."

But Hailey hated every single minute of her life. Except for maybe that one time she got to ride a camel. Her mom made her wear slutty clothes and date rock stars, she hasn't had pancakes or dessert since she was a pre-teen, and she doesn't even want to be famous. So she leaves her LA life behind and heads to Green College in Burlington, Vermont (hey! I lived there for five years! I can totally fact check this!).

A few weeks into the school year, Hailey is at a party but she sneaks out onto the deck because all these people keep staring at her. There's a dark, mysterious guy on the deck. He doesn't say much, but he loans her his jacket, and she has to clench her hands to keep from stroking his face, which is like my number one book pet peeve so I had to scream and regroup when I read that. Hailey thinks a lot while she stares into this guy's eyes. She's looking for answers. Then she thinks maybe she shouldn't trust someone she just met, so she leaves.

Caleb, the guy, has inky black hair. I highlighted nine mentions of his inky black hair, so it's got to be the inkiest.

18-year-old Hailey is a famous singer/actress, but she's taking a break for a while and going to college, where she meets Caleb.
Slowly they fall in love, but will Caleb still love her when he finds out about all the things she has done in the past? Can he look past her mistakes and still love her for who she really is inside? And will he stay with her?

This was an okay NA contemporary romance, but I just couldn't get into it.

I don't know what it was about this one, but right from the beginning it just wasn't doing it for me, I didn't connect with the characters, I didn't really care what happened to them, and certain things just annoyed me.

The first thing to annoy me was a scene where Hailey was carrying a drink and some shopping bags, she bumps into Caleb, spilling her drink all down herself, and he offers to take her to his place, which is right around the corner, so that she can clean up, and get a fresh shirt. I don't know if this sounds familiar to anyone else, but this is almost exactly the same as a scene from Notting Hill, where oh yes, Julia Roberts is a famous movie star, and bumps into Hugh Grant in the street.
I mean, yes, I might have seen this film more than once, but it just annoyed me how similar the two scenes were! I was just waiting for a weird roommate to come in and start eating mayonnaise thinking it was yogurt.

Anyway, this annoyed me, so I put the book down and read something else, because that way I can sometimes get past the thing that was annoying me, and enjoy the rest of the book. Unfortunately though, the rest of the book wasn't much of an improvement.

This was just ok.

I mean it had a lot more of storytelling to it, which I was surprised at, but overall it was just another New Adult fiction book.

The twist was with her having a Hollywood career that she left behind to pursue college and find herself.

I was getting really annoyed with her self doubt and self consciousness. It's like, you were famous for a reason, you have talent and yet you're insecure about your art paintings? C'mon. A little unrealistic.

And Caleb was uber sweet. Almost too sweet. He had no flaws.

Bottom line: Cute little story line, however I will not be picking up the next in the series. I liked the way it ended (happy ending, no cliffhanger) and don't care much for the other characters to keep reading.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I loved the story, the heroine, the hero, the supporting cast, the feeling I got when I read it, etc. It was also sooooooooooo nice not to have to deal with a cheating man-whore (not always a bad thing ...cough"Travis Maddox"cough), but once in a while it's refreshing to read a book about to people who, against all odds, fall in love and grow together as a couple. I absolutely ADORE Caleb and I am so glad he and Hailey found each other. Sometimes that happens in life, we meet someone when we least expected it or want it, and it changes our lives forever. Happened to me ......! I can't wait to read more in this series. I hope the next book is about Caleb's friend Nick and Caleb's awesome sister Daphne (loved his whole family by the way). Take a chance on this book. Yes, there was the one thing others have mentioned that felt it was stolen from Notting Hill, but it totally worked and it didn't upset me. Maybe because I knew it was coming, it didn't bather me. Also, just so you know how much I loved it, I almost NEVER give 5 stars if there are typing, grammatical and sentence errors, well today I did, and I don't regret it!
