“There is a reason J. Lynn will always be one of my go-to authors. She never disappoints.” (Jay Crownover, New York Times bestselling author)
From the Back Cover
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You and Be with Me returns with a daring tale that pushes boundaries . . . in which a young woman learns that you can't run from your past—no matter how far you go
At twenty-one, Calla hasn't done a lot of things. She's never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.
But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now Calla has to go back to the small town she thought she'd left behind and clean up her mom's mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother's bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.
Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla's business from the moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she's got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn't give them her mom.

Thinking back, I realized my disappointment stems from the fact that I just didn't like the story. I found it over the top in some parts, a bit boring in others and over all just incredulous. There was too much drama after another going on, that the story got bogged down. So much so that there were moments I was either rolling my eyes or was skipping parts.
And on the romance side, I also felt no interest on seeing where Jax and Calla's relationship was leading...it just felt forced to me. I know Jax was supposed to be this likable hot hero but he fell short. He acted like a player who talks a good game but is just a condescending older guy that lies and can't be counted on.
All in all, I feel really let down with Stay with Me. It had a huge potential but it just felt flat. I expected so much especially since J Lynn said it was her fave book but I seriously doubt that I will be continuing with this series...unless of course it'll be about Cam and Avery. For now, my advice is to wait until the price drops before buying...oh, and also to lower expectations because sad to say, this book is not one for keeps.
At first I was skeptic about this book because I did not think very much of Calla in Be With Me other than the fact that she was really funny. Starting this book off I was not impressed at all especially after reading Be With Me, so the bar was set kinda high going into this one.
Calla has to go home to her hometown when she finds out her mother(who is not dead) stole all her money and put her in some serious debt. Calla goes to her family owned bar Mona's and meets sexy ass bartender Jackson "Jax" James. That is hot already. Call and Jax sorta team up to find her drug abusing mother before a drug lord has her killed in order to settle her mothers debt for not delivering some stuff she was holding(aka drugs). So the story line had me interested and I was sure it was gonna be drama filled, which I love.
So Calla was really funny, she had the funniest lines in this book; I laughed out loud in public quite a bit. But she bugged me so much because she just made some really dumb decisions. She made up for some of those dumb decisions by admitting she was dumb, so I felt a little better. She just did not understand how serious the situation involving her mother was and she took zero precautions. At first it bugged me at how inexperienced she was but I understood that her decisions were expected since she was in foreign territory. But as the story progressed I realized that I liked Calla a lot and she had been through some serious sh** growing up. Her story was so sad; she thought she wasn't beautiful because of her scars, and that there was no way Jax could possibly want her. But his acceptance of her slowly changed Calla into a new person. Let's face it Jax was friggin amazing throughout this whole book. He was so determined to protect her, he made her see how beautiful she really was, and showed her how to live.
This book was sooo hot and steamy and I loved Calla and Jax's relationship with each other. I liked that we got to see more of Cam, Avery, Teresa, and Jase in this book too. The new characters were awesome. I loved Katie, Roxy, Reece, Clyde, and Nick. I wanted to punch Aimee with two ee's in the throat though. There was so much to love about this book and I have to say it had the best ending ever. As you know there is a theme with these books that I like to call the "I Love You Moment" that happens and when that moment happened it was sooo beautiful and I seriously cried like someone died, but they were tears of pure happiness. If this book was letting you down at some point, it will totally redeem itself in that moment. That's how talented Jennifer Armentrout is that she writes such beautiful love stories that stay way with you forever. I loved this book so much that I read it again after I finished it. Plus I had to sideline Cam and Jase because Jax has become my man in this series. I need a Jax in my life.
I really got to love Calla and how she was insecure about her life but you get to see her character grow. She is very independent and after finding out what is going on with her family. Her humor was so fun and quick that JLA's characters can make you laugh. Calla is someone I would love to get to know since she is fun, and smart.
Then there is Jackson James who is one HOT specimen. *fans self* seriously this man will make you fall in love with him the first time you get to meet him. He definitely can run Cam, and Jase for their money of how hot they are. Jax is so sweet and caring that he would do anything for Calla. He does have a past of his own but that is why they get a long.
It was great to see everyone back in Stay with Me. Calla and Jax were awesome but it was great to see more characters like Katie, Ollie, Roxy, Reese and many characters that were in previous books in the series. (be on the look out for a certain couple to make an appearance!) Jennifer did a great job weaving them back into the story!
The plot pulled me in immediately and it progressed so quickly that I read it fast. It was the characters, humor and this amazing plot that there was mystery and suspense that can even make you cry! I feel like re-reading this series all over again after reading Stay with Me. So much love I feel for this book since it and experience and relate to Calla. Overall, Stay with Me was perfect and I love this book so much!! Add this book you your TBR lists right now!
