What sets STAY UP! apart from the others is two things; the first being that it has a very controlled scope on STREET ART (opposed to traditional graffiti), this is important because at this time there are countless books on the topic of graffiti and less focused strictly on the new school street art.
The second distinguishing aspect of this book is the actual writing. Most related books become a photo journal and wind up as a coffee table accoutrement. STAY UP! is almost scientific in it's journey. It's arguable the writing is more powerful than the images. Daichendt takes a very unbiased and academic viewpoint on street art and it's quality. You can tell this was written by a professor with an innocent interest in illegal works of art. I hope people that buy this book take the time to actually read it and not just look at all the pretty photographs.
Other than that, the photography is great, the book has an interesting graphic design and being from Los Angeles I bought 10 copies for my Christmas gifts this year!
Stay Up! includes an excellent collection of photos that capture the richness of the street art movement.
In addition, Daichendt's research and reflection of the movement is well articulated, and exciting to read. This book is a must have for anyone interested in or affiliated with street art.
