I remember the time when I first fell in love with reading. I picked up a huge hard cover book that was on sale at Barnes & Noble and it was an intriguing cover and it read, GUILTY PLEASURES by Laurell K Hamilton. I wanted to have something to read on a long plane ride back to Florida. I started the book thinking that I would quickly get tired and fall asleep (I HATE FLYING, by the way) Well, let’s just say after reading the first chapter I could not put it down and I went straight through that series with no stops in between. That is when I fell in love with reading. I tell you this story, because the feeling I got when I started the Anita Blake series, is the same feeling I got when I started STEAL THE LIGHT by Lexi Blake. Pure bliss, pure contentment. Lexi is so spectacular at creating these worlds that you just never want to leave. She creates these characters that you want to hang out with. Whether she’s giving us an extremely hot ménage scene, a sexy suspenseful spy story, or a wonderful urban fantasy, Lexi Blake WILL keep you captivated until the very last page.

STEAL THE LIGHT is Book 1 out of 5 expected in Lexi Blake’s brand new urban fantasy, paranormal romance series THIEVES. I’m not going to lie, when I found out she had this series coming out, I was a bit nervous. I am so used to the ridiculously hot, beautifully kinky, suspenseful erotic romances that she gives us. Lexi Blake, Urban Fantasy, these just don’t go together, do they?

I am now convinced that Lexi Blake can write a story about a pencil and hit it out of the ballpark! Seriously, give her any genre, and she will make it happen! Ok, enough of that. Let’s get down to business!

“I’m tired. I want to die.

This is Zoey and Daniel's story.. no this is Zoey and Dev's story.. AGH.. now you see my problem. You have 2 really good hero's in this story. AND NO WAY do these guys seem like they'd be into the whole 3 way thing- just eww- I shudder to think even. I've decided I'm team Daniel. I hope that Zoey and Daniel will end up together, but I think the author said this is a 5 book series- and wow- that's a lot of angst they have yet to go through.

Personally, I really like for my main characters to 'know' that they are 'it' for each other and to be true to each other. This is the case for Daniel, and even I think for Zoey. She just needs to have some control in her life, some peace- and Dev gives her that. Well, goody for her I guess but it makes me like her a whole lot less and I feel bad for Dev- who is going to get hurt. It also makes me hate him too, cause he should say no and keep away from her and 'true love' and all. But that's cause I like pure simple love stories with outside drama and action. Not inner turmoil and angst along with the adventure.

So, this book is filled with witches, a fashion savy werewolf, a demon, our feisty heroine, and 2 great leading men- a one a vamp, one a faery. In the end- who will win? In this book- neither. but you will get hooked and want to read more.

There were certain aspects of this book that blew my socks off. The most important one (to me at least) was the very real sense of longing between Zoey and Daniel. This is highlighted even more by the fact that the author states in her forward that these books (the series, I suppose) were the ones she wrote while waiting for someone to return to her. Thinking the emotions I felt in the book might be an echo of her very real ones was almost excruciatingly beautiful.
I also really liked the characters. Zoey was strong and sarcastic, without ever becoming suicidally mouthy. Daniel was the silent type, but he had a surprising vulnerability to him. There were also saucy side kicks, sexy bits on the side and even a beautiful bouncing baby.

I did find the book quite repetitive. We are told the same things over and over again. I really can't abide by love triangles (and honestly, it's the triangle that makes me consider not continuing the series) and I don't AT ALL understand Zoey's decision at the end of the book (I was a bit infuriated by it.), especially since she knows Daniel is coming back.

I also found the tone of the sex scenes inconsistent with the rest of the book. By this I mean that while the whole book is soft, hazy, true love the sex is of the raunchy, gritty, f_ck-you-into-the-mattress kind. Now, I like that kind just fine, but it didn't at all fit the rest of the book or the characters outside of the bedroom.

All-in-all, I found it a well written, funny fantasy romp.

Lexi Blake takes you on an adventure where an unlikely team of thieves that include a witch, vampire, werewolf, and faery prince attempt to steal a priceless artifact after making a deal with a demon. How hard could it be right? The team is only up against a few demons, witches, and several other master thieves so what could go wrong?

I highly suggest that you take the time to read the author forward in this book. Lexi was going through a very dark period in her life when she wrote this story and it reflects in the character Daniel. Daniel is denying his needs to try to keep Zoey safe. When his stubbornness puts him and Zoey in danger will she every be able to forgive him? When she finds out that he is hiding things from her will she ever be able to trust him or will she be pushed into the arms of another man?

Lexi does an excellent job once again with her character development. You are able to feel Daniel's pain and Zoey's heartache as if you were right there in the story with them. The supporting characters play a very large role in this story. I can't help but crack up at the sign posted at the entrance of Dev's club that states the rules which include "no exorcisms on the dance floor and that the bringing about of the apocalypse on the premises is strictly discouraged".

If you love paranormal romances with lots of plot twists that take you on an journey through darkness into light then you will love Steal the Light. This story s part of a series that continues with Steal the Day coming out in October of 2013.
