"This particular installment is a forbidden love romance, which is totally my catnip...If you like gritty historicals or the words "underworld romance" make you giddy, then you should totally check this book out." -Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, B+ Review
"Erica Monroe has a way of cutting straight to the emotional heart of a story and Stealing the Rogue's Heart is no exception. Her characters, full of fire and grit, and evocative rookeries setting grabbed me from the first page and wouldn't let go." -Christy Carlyle, USA Today Bestselling Author
"The connection between Mina and Charlie was gentle and tender in a merciless environment displayed in a setting not typical of romance novels yet this was an epic love story. This action driven work moved at a quick clip accompanied by memorable exchanges. Ms. Monroe may not only have stolen a rogue's heart but her audience's with Stealing the Rogue's Heart." -Jenerated Reviews

From the moment young Mina Mason met Charlie Thatcher she knew he was the only one she would ever care about. Now years later she’s more certain than ever. Her only problem is he belongs to a rival gang than her brother. Even so she looks forward to spending time with him in the tavern where he works. At least until the one night it goes to hell in a hand basket. Now can she convince him that their differences do not matter and they belong together or is she doomed to wed a man of her brother’s choice?
Charlie Thatcher owes his life and allegiance to the only “family” he’s ever known but he cannot help but adore the sister of the leader of a rival gang. Knowing he will never be good enough for her and the night everything goes to hell makes his decision to push her away easier; she deserves a better life. Now all he has to do is convince her of that.
I have read a short story by Erica Monroe that was in an anthology and really liked her writing. However, that did not prepare me for the true depth of her writing. Ms. Monroe pulled at every emotion – from admiration to exasperation to hope. I applauded Mina’s strength and determination while feeling every low moment Charlie feels.
While this is book four in her Rookery Rogues series it can be read as a stand-alone. Ms. Monroe writes just enough detail that I wasn’t left as I missed something but wanting (no, yearning) to read the rest of the series. Ms. Monroe has earned a loyal fan.
Copious amounts of period research adorn the latest work of Erica Monroe, Stealing the Rogue's Heart. Book four in the Rookery Rogues series brings this author back to a community of characters that she clearly has an affinity to and it shows in her impassioned portrayals. This author does not gloss over the harsh reality of the Rookeries making for a compelling and desperate scenario enhancement. The connection between Mina and Charlie was gentle and tender in a merciless environment displayed in a setting not typical of romance novels yet this was an epic love story. This action driven work moved at a quick clip accompanied by memorable exchanges. Ms. Monroe may not only have stolen a rogue's heart but her audience's with Stealing the Rogue's Heart.
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*While part of a series this book can be read as a stand alone.*
Her characters are interesting since most have had rough upbringings and some still struggle.
I liked Mina, the heroine, for not allowing things to stand in her way and doing what she needs to get what she wants. The hero, Charlie, is protective of her even though it puts him at odds with his fellow gang members.
I liked this friends to lovers story and the finding of love against the unusual backdrop of gangs and violence.
Mina and Charlie have been friends since childhood. The fact that their families are rival gangs has never mattered to them. Mina likes going into Chapman territory to visit him and sit at the bar admiring him. Charlie enjoys seeing her and it allows him to keep an eye on her and to keep her safe.
One night this is all destroyed by the actions on another and it sets in motion a call for gang loyalty. These two must determine how much they mean to one another and to their family/gang.
This is a can't miss story and has a happy ending.
I received a gifted copy from the author in exchange for a honest review.
Each are standalone but you will love how characters come back around . Hopefully Cyrus and Joaquin get their stories too.
