From the Author
Welcome to a world where climate changethreatens to end human existence and life as we know it.
I've always been a firm believer that thebest antidote to reality is a story that poses the question, "What if?" With alifelong fascination with fantasy, science fiction and the study of why thingshappen the way they do, I have always wanted to write a series set in adystopian future. While reading about the impact of climate change on theinsect populations of the world, The Silent Lands series was born.
Wordsmithing is my skill, world building ismy passion, and art is my gift. Books were my friends growing up, and I havealways been firmly committed to the power of a good story to transport areader, as well as the restorative power of a good cup of coffee.
I hope you enjoy these tales of determinedsurvivors, sharing in their struggles as they face impossible odds, and racingagainst time as the lands fall silent.

The writing is done so well I didn't even realize time was passing. I was so sucked into the story that I didn't even hear my dogs begging to go outside or my husband trying to talk to me. I was right there with them all, struggling, laughing and heart pounding away. Once I started reading couldn't stop.
The reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is that I'm extremely disappionted in the way the author's are releasing this "series". Each book is less than 90 pages and takes about an hour to read but ends in a cliffhanger. It could easily have been combined into a full book and I would have devoured it right up but you have to buy each section separately and that's such a pain and also makes rereading the series annoying AF. I understand why the author's do this; to make more money because most people won't risk $5-10 on unknown authors and it makes sense but I would rather pay $5 for a full book then have to go through each one separately. As much as I loved this particular section of the book I won't be continuing the "series" unless it's released in single book format, then I'll be snatching it right up and devouring it asap.
Into this mix comes Avalon, a young woman trying to care for her sister and avoid dying by inches from starvation. After she gets popped for trying to steal food, Avalon winds up in the middle of a crazy plan to find out just what the heck caused the devastation and what can be done to fix it.
Stealing Silence does a good job with its protagonist, focusing most of the narrative on her point of view. One of the things I would have liked to have seen, and perhaps subsequent stories in the series will cover it, is getting a look at the world through the eyes of others. We get hints that there's a lot going on outside of the main story, but the story is tightly focused. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. But I would like to see more of the world in future stories.
The writing is excellent and I thought the dialogue was spot on. Very interesting read.
My one crtiticism is that you are left wanting more! So, off to buy the second book!

The concept of the book is very interesting. Who knows, one day we may find ourselves in a world without insects and with dying land. I can't wait to find out what happened to Avalon's parents and if Avalon and Mitch restore the dying land.
If I'd known what a treat I had on my Kindle, I wouldn't have waited so long to read it. On the other hand, it did make a great story to have when I was on holiday. I'll definitely be buying the next in the series.
Perhaps my fault for not checking the number of pages first, but then the paperback does not have any page numbers, so it cannot be quoted ... £7.99 ... Strewth.
