Does anyone know if I can use my CD key for this game to activate it on Steam? Given that amazon has a 5 dollars off preorder bonus.

I believe all versions require steam, physical or digital, even the amazon one.

"I believe all versions require steam, physical or digital, even the amazon one."

This is true.

Also, it is no longer sold for PC via physical retail copy in the U.S. Download only OR streaming via Onlive (arrives later).

Yes, Risen 2 will use Steam.

http://www.worldofrisen.de/english/article_370.htm

"Risen 2 will be using Steam, respectively Steamworks as copy protection. This applies to all PC versions, including the boxed version available in retail stores. The decision is on a world wide basis, it will be the same everywhere on the planet. Local distributors will not be allowed to offer Steam-free versions with alternative copy protection systems."

BTW, the PC disc retail version is still listed, but not available until May 22. Whether or not it will be canceled is not confirmed; and it seems like it depends on the dealings between Deep Silver and Square Enix.

"BTW, the PC disc retail version is still listed"

IF you google it or already had it bookmarked. It does not show with a new search on amazon nor listed on the same page as the console versions as normal.

Also, there's a forum post of an email from deep silver that says "no boxed copy will be available in North America". link -> http://tinyurl.com/8a7y3fe

Sure its not an official announcement but it is Deep Silver we are talking about.

May 22nd is also the wrong date for PC release.

I can see how one could be thinking of a boxed version coming out with a later release... well, yes no maybe not. Times are changing.
