It's the right price, and it's exactly what you probably want from this. It heats up in under a minute, it doesn't spurt water and it perfectly steams. This thing has saved me a ridiculous amount of money on dry cleaning and I would highly, HIGHLY recommend this for anyone who steams on a regular daily basis and for those who need something portable just for special events. I have owned a big, long, tall steamer, and I can tell you that this little guy is perfect for my small city apartment (probably for dorms, too). It works just as well, if not better. My boyfriend, how has never ironed a day in his life, willingly uses this.
I love the way this little steamer works - but it's not durable - the plug breaks easily and it can overheat. I've purchased 4 of these steamers and will probably buy another because it's so convenient to use. It works nicely for quick touch-ups to relax those pesky clothes wrinkles - heats up fast, can steam a whole outfit and is light even when full of water. It would benefit from an off switch, but it's easy enough to remember to unplug it every time when finished. Unfortunately, the plug grounding pin breaks off easily with regular use and has done so with 3 of the 4 steamers. I'm not hard on plugs and haven't broken any others. I use a hair dryer in the same outlet even more frequently (daily) with no plug issues. For the most recent steamer (pictured), I switched from using the wall outlet to a plug extender to allow for even gentler removal just in the unlikely case that there was an issue with the outlet. Despite the extra care, this one broke as well. The second steamer that I purchased did not have the plug issue, but somehow became overly hot very quickly and suddenly began to melt on the bottom even when full and when just starting to heat up. If you buy one of these, watch it carefully at all times for any over heating issues, take extra care with the plug and consider this a short-lived product.
For example: It does not hold as much water as the My Little Steamer, so when I'm doing a group of garments, I ran out more frequently.
The steam sputtered most of the time, leaving wet marks on my clothing. The steam was also not as powerful as the My Little Steamer, so it took longer to get the results I wanted on a garment.
Also, the knob for the water hole on the Steamfast must have one of the longest threadings possible, because screwing/unscrewing it was unreasonably long and tedious. It was to the point where sometimes I thought about leaving partially unscrewed! But I never did, since I was unsure if that was safe. Compare to the My Little Steamer, where I twist the head less than halfway from the body, it comes off and I refill with water, twist the head back on, and I'm done - so much quicker and easier.
After less than a year, I plugged this in one day, and it immediately threw the GFCI protective switch in my laundry room. I tried it in several other outlets in my house, with the same result. I had the electrician at my job look at it. He said the internal circuitry was messed up, which is why it was throwing the GFCI's, because those are designed to protect your home electricity from unsafe electrical issues with appliances. So into the trash this went, and I ordered a new My Little Steamer which I am very happy with again.
