This book has a ton of information that has been woven together like a fine tapestry by master weavers Travis Sivart and Wendy Callahan. What they've done is truly ingenious as they've written a book that is a collaboration with an army of steampunk enthusiasts. This isn't a book written by one person preaching a definitive "how to do steampunk" but rather a ....... I hesitate to say it.....but a steampunk bible (even though that title already exists). What these two have done is to capture the passion for steampunk that exists in each one of the contributing authors. It's pure steampunk! It's an amalgamation of passion for this genre. When you start reading the book, you feel it immediately. With each author, an image of steampunk is meticulously crafted in your imagination. I've been doing steampunk for a number of years now and sitting in my office last night reading this, I was flooded with a renewed sense of inspiration and passion. I was totally surprised, and pleasantly so.
Now that you have my emotional response to the book, I'll briefly share the rest. The book chalked full of fun articles about steampunk from various corners of the globe. It has DIY articles, witty banter about this and that, information about bands, musicians, conventions. To put it quite frankly, it's chocked full of steampunk goodness that may be titled for beginners but is a true inspiration for even the most seasoned veteran.
To put it plainly and to revert to my emotional response: Travis and Wendy have written a book that is preaching the gospel of steampunk and it has helped to renew my faith in in this art form I love to my core. Well done Sir and Madame, well done! Keep Calm and Steampunk on!
I wish I'd found this before I spent money on the Steampunk Bible.
