I've often thought that like DC's Freedom Fighters, that some characters work best when their stories are set in the WW II era. That's what you get here, but with an extra dose of realism! However, don't think I'm talking about the dull Grim and Gritty realism that plagues so many modern comics, but rather realism in the novel sense that the fictional characters interact with real world characters and in a realistic manner. There is no stilted dialogue or rehashed plots in this book. It's a fun, exciting take on the superhero genre that fans of good adventure stories and good comics should enjoy equally!
Note: If RA Jones reads this review, I would be interested in interviewing him for my Flashback Universe blog!
The Steel Ring is a fun book to read. I am an older comic book reader and this book took me back to the days of adventure without an agenda. It is a Good vs Evil, right vs wrong super heroic adventure!
I honestly had a hard time putting it down, it seemed I was watching a Saturday serial series that was non-stop action with all sorts background for all the characters. Good old fashioned action with the world getting ready to burn in the coming WWII and historical figures added in for good measure.
I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates Pulp novels, comic books and serial movie shorts. You will not be disappointed.
I intend to get his other novels ASAP and immerse myself in some great nights reading them!
