Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I'm here to review the 5Hv2's I bought awhile back.
These are comfortable. I have a small grape, my military cover(hat for those who don't know) was a size 7.25(if that helps). I can game with these for hours on end. 2 hours movies, 8-10 hour gaming sessions, they feel the same. No pain taking them on or off, almost perfect pressure around your ears. They drown outside noise very well when gaming.
The mic is excellent. Clear and concise for what it is. You don't have to act like your eating a hot dog with these. It doesn't wiggle or bounce, it stays where you put it. It doesn't sling out of the cup, if you put it away.
Sound clarity from them was very good. I can tell if someone was trying to sneak up behind me, or where they where walking. I tried some other 'recording quality' AKG cans on my sound card, and these beat them for telling what direction someone is in. Game immersion is awesome, cries of hacking will come from other players, from you 'radaring' with these. You will no longer need an in game radar. Your stats will improve with these on FPS games.
Sound isn't the best when watching movies, or listening to music. These lack stones, bass, feeling of a theater. There isn't much 'Umph' with these. They won't make Slayer sound like a pop boy band, but not far off.
Quality. The cord does not stand up to running over with a chair after 2 weeks of ownership. Mine had an extension on it after 3-4 feet from the cans. If that wasn't there, I would be writing a more scathing review. Dropping or tossing these will destroy them. That's how mine died. Treat them well, if you buy them. My volume controller died not long before I canned mine. I had to fiddle with it for sound to work.
Ear cups. They feel great. But if you live in hot, or humid climates; or if you normally sweat while wearing headphones; if you game for 3-4 or more hours at a sitting; there is one thing you should know. These ear cups will soak up that sweat. However little you sweat. They will smell like your old high school gym clothes over time. The ear cups are not removable and not completely washable. For this price point, I expect to be able to wash something that I come in contact. I have recording cans that have removable ear cups, that cost less. Once these start to stink, there isn't much outside of 'Febreeze' that can fix them. Want to wash your head before or after wearing these every time? Something to consider. People, velcro ear cups are awesome for a reason.
These have never really strayed too far from my desktop, so I cannot comment on portability. I can remark on how I liked the short cord. If you have a good sound card(like a HT Omega) or working front audio ports to said sound card, you will not run over the cord with your chair. Again, cord+chair=bad idea with these.
So, all in all; if you want to be called a hacker-cause you can radar people; if you have a normal to small head; you want to game all day, these might fit the bill. If you don't want a house mate, or other people from commenting on the smell; or cant handle treating these with kid gloves, you may wish to avoid. I would not advise these for a casual gamer, someone who uses Skype all day, someone who listens to music.
First off, these are the best gaming headphones I've ever owned.
I love the long cord with the option to detach the second half if need be. I love how they go all the way around my large ears and don't squish them. I love how I can wear them for hours without any discomfort. I love that I can hear completely in 3-D and own anyone that tries to sneak up on me. I love the retractable microphone. I love the padding on the headband. I love the woven-style cord.
I hate how crappy music sounds through them. I hate how even though I have the volume on 100% on both my computer and the game, it still could use a little boost. I hate how the sound doesn't have enough bass. I hate how much outside-noise gets in while I'm gaming.
But still, they're the best gaming headphones I've ever owned. Maybe the next version will improve on the things I so loathe.
I went through two pairs of these headphones in about a year and a half before I decided to look elsewhere. The sound quality of the headphones and mic are fine for gaming. I used mine for raiding with my guild on WoW but I believe they're focused for FPS games because of a bold kick in the lower midrange frequencies.
IF you don't baby these headphones they're going to fail on you hard. These headphones are made out of plastic, and it's cheap plastic in a serious way. Both pairs ended up with duct tape and both are deaf in one ear thanks to cheap, thin wiring.
If you treat these with the delicacy of a raw egg they'll be just fine. Again, the performance of these headphones is not in question, but the durability is a big time fail.
With having been a PC gamer for many, many years, the SteelSound 5H's were one of the first headphones I had used with professional gaming. When our team, sponsored by Steel Series at the time, gave us the 5H V2's, I couldn't stand any other type of headphone. I love the fact that the mic compresses into the ear phone rather than flip out of the way like many other 'gaming' headsets. These things are comfortable around the ears, and I could wear them for hours without discomfort. My ears would be rather toasty after long gaming sessions, but I can't fault the headphones for that.
To put into perspective the quality of these headphones, I used them for many years and traveled with them to many tournaments. The materials held up, and the speakers/mic never skipped a beat. It wasn't until I was home one weekend, where the cable was laying on the carpet around my old room's desk that my mom decided to vacuum, that my original pair met its demise. She had slit through the cable with the vacuum cleaner! To my surprise, after many years after being released to the market, they were still available for me to replace.
