The real treat is visiting the boat berthed at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Let me tell you it is worth the trip. The first thing you learn is the smell of diesel fuel oil BEFORE you even go down the main hatch into the submarine. These brave men lived with this and other terrors on every war patrol and did their duty for our freedom during World War II.
